Straight to the rules. The possibly straight to the bin - hahaha

I would like too first read the fluff to get a gist of the design philosophy and enjoy the imminent doom before list thinking. But really i might just flip the back(rules) at the first description of a unit in the fluff.

I really love to start with the fluff, so i chose cover to cover. I find reading all the evolved horror that the Tyranids are really helps me get in the mindset of playing the game. Rules are necessary, but fluff is what makes me love the 'Nids!

1) Armywide rules (Synapse, etc.)
2) Skip ahead and look up Lictors and Deathleaper
2.5) Cry and/or fist pump
3) Skip back and read all the rules sections in order
4) Let it marinate
5) Reread the rules again, with a lot of cross-referencing, looking for cool builds, broken rules, FAQ-bait, etc.
6) Read all the fluff cover-to-cover

Of course, that all assumes that no more rumours come out, which is unlikely. If detailed, reliable rumours pour forth, then I probably won't be able to stop myself from just flipping all over the place at random and checking out whatever I found most interesting/unclear in the lead-up.

Most likely the rules are leaked before I can read my own codex, so it depends on what details I want to look up.

As I am eagerly awaiting re-launching my Skaven-Counts-As-Tyranids, I have virtually no interest in the fluff, other than to give context for the powers and rules.
I am looking forward to building a Hive Pit Abomination for use as one of the big new beasties; I am hoping that they have fixed Harpies so that my Black Dragon gets some exercise, and I am hoping that dakkafexen are more viable, as I can build some cool catapults/balistae.

I will eventually go back and read the fluff properly, but unless they retcon Cruddace's atrocities, I can't summon much enthusiasm for it.

I will spend a few minutes looking at the new art, then go straight to reading the rules from start to end. After that I will allow myself to enjoy the new fluff.

Cover to cover, rereading certain passages as I go and possibly even inserting a marked sticky note or two to page back to quickly. I'm so glad when I walked into a games workshop oh so many years ago intending to start and army of emperors children I fell in love with the 4th edition Hive tyrant sculpt and picked him up along with the battle for macragge starter kit. Every single piece of fluff will be read, and likely reread time to time. A new codex is a chance to re-live that nostalgia for me and I'm going to have it come home, serenade it, share a drink with it from a drink-safe distance, and have my way with it.
