The Hive Pets tricks and trials!

Was going to put this in the grumps section but thought; well its not really a grump and there might be many more stories out there; so without further ado what are you stories of pet intervention within your hobby life?


For me two notable things stand out:

1) Husky VS Genestealer - it turns out that whilst they can rend whole tanks apart and tear into terminator armour (for the juicy marine inside) they -- can't be a husky. Thankfully I got most (not all) the parts back and it was just the one stealer.

2) Cat VS Metal - it seems metal unassembled models are - apparently - comfortable to sleep upon.



She might be trying to feign innocence here (and sat up to avoid looking like she was sleeping as soon as the camera appeared) but don't let the pretty face fool you - she was totally spread out over those models (Which were, at one time, in neat little piles...).

Before I cleared out most of my Skaven stuff, my cat loved when she could get ahold of Clanrats with spears. She'd just carry them around by the spear until she got bored, and then drop them somewhere I'd step on them :3

A few years back, a guy on another forum posted a pic of his cat sleeping on top of a bunch of Chaos Terminators. The old metal ones.

I have a pet piranha that once jumped out of it's tank and bit me as I was painting. We were cleaning the tank that afternoon so I took the top off of it so I could clean it later and it jumped right out of the tank and bit my hand when I got too close.

Dog walks by and clears off my hobby table with one swing of his wagging tail. Spilling open paint pots and breaking limbs off metal models. Then acts like it's my fault for not throwing his toy enough.

My snake managed to force open the door of her vivarium, and escaped. I found her a day later sleeping with her coils through the windows of a manufactorium and a ruin, and couldn't persuade her out without damage!
Eventually I put her and the scenery into her vivarium, and waited until she left the building!

I don't have pets so I have no stories to share but... Where can I get a pet piranha and is it as cool as it sounds. I request pictures and more information.

I bought it (along with 3 others) in some back alley pet store with my roomates from college two years ago. We had 4 in the tank in our dorm room but then we went our separate ways and each took one. As far as I know they aren't legal to sell where I live but there is no law against owning one whereas they were legal to buy in the state that I bought it in. And yes it is as cool as it sounds when you feed them live fish they will tear it apart (and they are very clever, we would watch them hunt when the four of them were together and they would ambush the fish and share it). Just be careful as they can grow up to 14" long and can rip off your thumb with a single bite at that size (but they live to be about 35 years old so it wont be for awhile that mine gets that big (it is about 4" long now and I have had it for a little over 2 years). Also they are vicious and will take chunks out of you if you get too close and they are hungry enough.

did some poking around and there is way way to some in the down under I can find. Good luck with yours though that sounds like a pretty nifty thing to show people who come over.

Exotic pets are always an area you want to do a lot of research into before owning one. They often have specific needs and temperaments which can make them more difficult to live with than your average domesticated pet; this can even make them dangerous unless you've an idea of what you're doing.

Some also require a licence to import and/or to own so its often an area you'll have to invest time and additional money into if you want to own more exotic creatures.

I'd also strongly advice against getting them from dubious sources as chances are you'll either be supporting the poaching and smuggling trade which harms wild stocks considerably or you're likely supporting large scale breeding programs which can often inbreed heavily (saying that there are a lot of - legitimate puppy farms that do the exact same thing - heck even Crufts with all their pedigree breeds were right into the whole breeding and inbreeding area of things).
