more harpy disappointments

Am I understanding right that harpies with either of its gun options CANT shoot enemy fliers? the regular one is just useless because I know of no 10 front armor flyer... both guns are blast and blast cant shoot fliers right?

Correct. Harpies are a bit more durable now with the greater difficulty of hitting FMC's and restrictions on Blast and Templates. They make fairly decent infantry killers,, but they're still outclassed by other 'nid units that can do the same general thing with greater durability and/or lower costs. If you want something that can take pressure off your Flyrant, can guarantee large blast templates anywhere on the board in turn one, and you don't think you'll need that capability after turn two (or one most likely), and you just don't like or have bivores, than a Harpy is a reasonable option.

nah I was needing a harpy to shoot down the chaos helldrake... but it cant. Keep hive tyrants away from necron warlords on their flying chariots btw...

Mind shackle scarabs are .... problematic.
They are in the short list of things in this game that I consider truly broken.

But yeah, Harpies can't do squat to flyers. Hoping that changes with a new codex. I think they made them too weak, fragile, and limited to make up for the fact that they had wings. Rebalancing is definitely in order.

the necron warlord with the warscythe sweeping striking my flyrant out of the air (he had already suffered 2 wounds) was the specific thing... but yeah MS scarabs i try and deal with by stacking termagants so its like a 1/6 chance to get the MC (when it does i just want to backflip and scream but i take a deeeeeeep drink of whatever i have on tap)

He can't hit you with sweeping attacks if you're flying, just so you know. Unless there is an FAQ I haven't read?

The rulebook faq states that skimmer chariot cannot make sweep attacks against zooming flyers and swooping monstrous creatures, page 8 of the faq

I notice that all here seem to be of the impression that harpies can't hurt Flyers.... this would be a false statement in atleast some cases. Vector Strike + stinger salvo allows you to damage AV10 and kinda AV11's too. If maneuvered correctly, you only have to worry about vectoring side and salvoing rear.

That's probably coming from people getting stuck dealing with heldrakes, or those new necron FW super-croissants, so often lately. They are fairly common and they are front/side AV12.

No, its just that S5 really sucks when trying to pen and damage AV10 or AV11. Yes it is 'possible', it just isn't anywhere near worth the points.
