Space Wolves Battle Force or Thunderwolf Cavalry?

Ok, so I have roughly $100 that's burning a hole in my pocket. I've always wanted to have thunderwolves in my army because I think they are awesome and they look like decent fast attack choices. However I'm not so in love with the price. 50 something dollars for three models seems a bit steep. So my problem is: should I get two packs of thunderwolves (why they made them in packs of 3 when a squad is maxed out at 5 I don't know) or a battle force?

I already have:

18 grey hunters, two wolf lords, 14 wolf guard terminators, a rhino, land raider, rune priest, and a squad of long fangs.

So what does the hive think I should do? Are thunderwolves fun to play, fun to build, and therefore worth it? Or should I expand my army further? I know this is a very opinionated question but I appreciate any suggestions or input.

Given what you already own, I think adding the Wolves would be the way to go.

Get the TW cav. 5 man squad w 2 chainfists, some combi melta, and 2 storm shields with a wolf lord on TW and you have a unit that is incredibly hard to take down. Probably one of the best FA choices in any codex in the game.

The cynical side of me wants to relate their price tag to their effectiveness but I will relent.

The price tag is similar to nob bikers. 360 for the squad then

for the wolf lord for 255 points for him. 615 points for a squad thats arguably more effective than nob biker squads and is effective vs just about any squad or vehicle in the game. Yeah, its a lot of points, but it can take down a tyranid tyrant deathstar in 1 turn pretty easily and probably wont even lose a single model. When you can move an average of 20 inches in a turn you can multi-assault a good portion of an army with the large base allowing nice spacing. The host of a lot of the tourniments in the local area runs 2 squads like that in his 2k list and i have seen what happens when that many attacks hit enemy lines. If you can assault 1st turn and keep them locked in combat by multi-assaulting enough stuff you can win by turn 3 with a bit of help from longfangs or speeders.

zephoid: I'm not worried about the points cost really. I need something to really flush out my 15 hundred point army. I'm worried about the actual price. Over a hundred dollars for six models!? The battleforce is roughly the same price and in that you get: drop pod, scouts, and two squads of gray hunters.

I find when collecting its very easy to pick up things like grey hunters, scouts, or drop pods. At worst you can mix a few SM models in with your grey hunters to pad out a squad. TW cav tho, those you wont find available for a long time. There may be a situation in the future where somone is selling their sw army off and you can get more troops and elites, but its very unlikely anyone buying TW cav will sell their army soon. Used you can get the battleforce for much cheaper than GW sells it for.

if you want to add more to you points battleforce (e.g going from 1500pts to 200pts) if not. go for wolves
