Whats the deal with Dark Angels?

I've been studying all the space marine sub-dexes and what not trying to learn about the craziness that is the Blood Angels and Space Wolves. I've also studied the Black Templar, yet the Dark Angels seem to have very little material concerning tactica on the net. Can anyone give me an idea of their main playstyles, strengths, and weaknesses. Also some popular units if possible. I just don't know a thing bout this chapter.

They are more expensive and have fewer options than any other Marine Chapter, so there's not a whole lot to say. Take Belial, lots of TH/SS Terminators with a Cyclone per Squad, a couple of Land Speeder Typhoons, and maybe a Ravenwing Attack Squad and that's as good as it gets.

Ignore anything that's actually green. Those Units cost 5-15% more than an identical Unit in a regular Marine list in exchange for not getting as many options.

First of all, you have to remember what Dark Angels codex was back then. It was the beta testing of what Space Marines were going to be in 5th edition. GW had a different philosophy what 5th was going to be, wich was mainly more streamlined, everything added together, wich is then how we got Eldar and Choas Space Marines. Us DA, Eldar and CSM players cried and complained. We were told this was going to be the way so we accepted it.

Thing is the Space Marine community cried the the most and loudest. They cried, they were too boring. Too bland. No colour of flavor since in Eldar and Chaos there was no more individual chapters but all put in together. So GW did a 180 on their philosophy and changed it. Made things more powerfull, more colourfull. More complicated. They didn't want to take a chance to loose sales on SM so they were not made into what they were suppose to be.

All I really know of DA is they get an AV14 landspeeder that still has rear armour 10, thankfully. Dies surprisingly easy

For now, if you don't play Deathwing or maybe Ravenwing, or make a good use of Belial's or MoR's FOC unlocking abilities, there's no point in playing Dark Angels.

It's also a Force Field, not actual Armour. Not quite as ridiculous as it sounds at first.

If it was a land speeder with a forcefield why not just make it a reasonable AV 10 or 11 and then give it an invuln save since that is the sort of thing that is supposed to represent.

Because the Rules for it were written before any Vehicles had Invulnerable Saves, and because the DA Dex was essentially an "Open Beta". It was something they were trying out, and then abandoned, like many things in the DA Dex.

As I recall, the previous version had something similar to the Wave Serpent field, which didn't help much when the basic platform was AV10 and still got wrecked by S6 fire.
