My new Red terror Mawloc/Trygon (somewhat pic heav

Now many of you will be familiar with the model and character of the Red terror, but for those of you who might not be here is my original release model




This character in the Tyranid army was supposed to be a horrifiying creature that swallowed men whole, how ever this model really doesnt look like it could manage this.



so I'm working on this ^^







In my opinion, that is a Red terror to be afraid of. What are peoples thoughts and feedback? I'll put mor up as I begin the tail section

it might end up being fairly simple as I'm not very skilled at shaping green stuff and dont have a lot at the moment so I can only do the head and body. I wanted to make the tail a lot longer but I think it might just be beyond my skills

I always figured the mawloc was inspired by the red terror. Very cool, can't wait to see it finished.

That's much better, always bugged me in the picture the Red Terror was a huge monster, but model was tiny! Would you mind doing a guide as you go? Would love to recreate this bad boy.

hmmm well I've already made most of the head, but I can always show and describe how I made it I guess.

Ok your going to need 3 carnifex shoulder/back carapace pieces, preferable the ordinary plain version. take one that will be the front top of the terror's head and carefully shave smooth the front central ridge so that its nice and smooth and then trim down the back sides so its not flairing out to wide at the point where the next piece will marry on.

The next step is to cut the front end off of your second carnifex carapace so the it will sit under the back edge of the first without to much hassle




once your happy with where to position the piece glue and greenstuff it into place (the greenstuff is more to strengthen the join at this point) then trim the rear sides again to marry up with the next piece wich should again have its fron edge cut back to slot under the second piece nicely. the third piece once glued and greened into place wont need the back trimmed as the flair out looks pretty good I find.



the next step I took was to make the upper jaws, and to do this I took the two sides that make the standard lower jaw for the trygon and lined them up inside the new head carapace we've just made.
before fitting them in you need to trim down the "posts" that are used to fix the jaw into the trygon head. now the lower jaws is made from the mawloc's lower jaw so assemble that then use it to get a rough idea of how wide you'll need to position the upper jaws so they look right together.
this image should also give you some idea as to where to put the upper jaws



once you've greenstuff'd in the upper jaw I used a small amount of greenstuff to fix in two of the trygon side spikes to look like large fangs at the fron between the jaws.

Next comes the neck and head section from the trygon. Fit the two havles together and then offer up the mawloc jaw. Now I found that with the mawloc jaw pre assembled it dosnt want to fit quite properly into place and leaves a small gap around where it fixes dow, but thats actually ok because it makes the angle that the jaw sits at more suitable fo the red terror head. so glue it on then greenstuff in the gaps. (I also cut the front jaw off the trygon head just after the point where the mawloc jaw meets the head and upper jaw as its not needed and also filled in the holes for the side mandibles as they arent used on mine)



once the neckhead and jaw are solid you can offer them up to the head carapace. you'll need a fair bit of greenstuff here to make the neck head part fit nicely into the head carapace and I also smoothed the roof of the mouth flat with green to look better. the way I worked it is that the back of the trygon head and neck section should just about reach the back of the last carnifex carapace section leaving the mawloc teeth lining up with the upper jaws in the head. than all you do is greenstuff any gaps in the whole head that you arent happy with.

Amazing, I hope you do some GS/filing work on the mawloc jaw though, the antennae look rather obviously clipped off.

Technically the Red Terror wasn't supposed to be huge, he just ate stuff in a distending-jaw-stretchy-stomach way. Still, I can't say no to a Giant Red Terror! Keep it comin'!

well I think it was the 3rd edition codex that I first saw him and he was first introduced and I seem to recall he looked much bigger in the artist picture but I cant find that codex at the moment to check it.

Anyway, on with the pics/guide. The torso is pretty easy and basic, the next step was to cut off the half sides of the chimenys from the trygon torso's back and glue the parts together arranged down the centre spine area, and once they were bonded nicely, to greenstuff them smooth.




next I took a large paperclip and straightened it out, and then bent it onto a nice curve shape to extend the tail with.




next I cut a section off the end of the tail so the I wouldnt damage the whole tail while sculpting the extension, and I hope I can re attach this section without to much trouble. In hind-sight I kinda wish I hadnt cut it but cant be helped now.



now I'm onto the stage of adding the carapace plates to the top of the tail, and so far its not looking to bad.
