Need help With Deciding between color schemes...

SO here's the gist: I recently bought someone's unwanted 'nid (shame on them) for around $70 for A Hive Tyrant, 12 H'gaunts, 3 warriors (one built to be Prime), 3 rippers, two mycetic spores (cheap, but free), and more bitz than I think really came with the guys.

The guy was a speed painter and as such, painted his army blue skin, black w/ purple highlighs chitin, white blood splattered weapons 'n claws, and purple-ish teal flesh bits. No wash.

Now, I also ordered a Battleforce a week ago that should be coming in soon and I had an idea for a volcanic style 'nid scheme w/ black skin (w/ red n dark grey wash), Red w/ orange fade to gold highlight chitin, crimson weapons, off-white( bone) claws, swords, and teeth, and deep orange-red flesh bits.

I will post pictures, but my main question is:

Continue the "Sub-Leviathan" Theme, or re-prime and make the entire set my Volcanic elite idea (Hive Fleet Surtr, as I have named it)?

I guess that depends on how much work you're gonna wanna put into it. Stripping paint is a (please don't swear), especially if the paint is thickly painted on there. It would look cooler to do your own colors, but if you wanna save yourself the time, I wouldn't do it.

Well, time isn't too much of an issue, as my friends are still constructing their armies (Chaos Space Marines and Orks) for me to feed upon and as such, they too need to paint their armies. I mean, who wants to eat bland gray or black models.

No less, would you have a safe an effective way to strip the paint? I have heard of a method involving small amounts of paint stripper and one with acetone, but both have a chance of damaging the model...

Well, I have decided to strip 'em down and just start anew.

Will post when painting commences. I want my gold-plated lava warriors of Hive Fleet Surtr.

And for those who are unaware, Surtr is the evil Nord God who rules over one of the land of the dead and the land of fire. He is to one day bring about Ragnarok. (So the mythology says.)

Wait! If your going to strip them use simple green! I have had a friend melt several models (my SW vendread being one of them Q.Q) using acetone...

Simple green is fine to use. I've stripped two tanks, 12 fire warriors, and a carnifex with it. Just dilute it with a 50/50 mix of water. It's really cheap to. But just in case test it on a model you don't really care about.

Yeah, I just used simple green a couple days ago on a bunch of stuff I picked up secondhand. I'm told you're supposed to dillute it 50/50, but I did it about 3:1 green to water. Paint thinner works great on the metal guys, but it'll eat those plastic ones up.

Thanks guys. I heard that Easy-Off Oven Cleaner works wonders on plastics AND metals. Can anyone attest to its validity?

If you use simple green, is there a specific one you need or do they all do the job?

I did some research into it and they say the normal Simple Green works best.

Painting has begun!!! I got all my box set assembled and primed. Just need to strip the rest, prime, and paint. I am washing my first set with the first wash tonight!
