Brand New Inquisititor, please give input

I jsut ran my second game as Inquisition (A mix of Sisters of Battle and Grey Knights) and I had mixed results. My first game was against Tyranids, and I got terrible luck throughout the whole encounter, and got tabled. My second battle, against Eldar, went far better, with a solid win for myself. My list is below for both battles, please tell me what you like and don't like, and what you would change:

First battle, 1250 points

HQ

Cannoness w/ Jump Pack, Blessed weeapon, Inferno Pistol, Cape of St. Aspira, 2+ save.

Grey Knight Grand Master w/ Targeter (I kinda like the basic GM more than one decked out) and 6 Termy retinue w/ Incinerator

Troops

2 sets of Sisters of battle w/ Storm Bolters (Changed for Flamers in second Game)

Fast Attack

5 Seraphim, Seraphim superior w/ Eviscerator, two flamers

Heavy Support

5 Retributors with Heavy Bolters (Changed for Multi-meltas in second game) mounted in Immolator w/ Pintle mounted Storm Bolter and Extra Armor and Smoke Launchers

Exorcist with Pintle mounted Storm Bolter and Extra armor and Smoke Launcher


Second Game

Fast Attack

5 Dominions in Immolator (Instead of Retributors) with Flamers

7 Grey Knights with Teleport Attack and Incinerator

Heavy Support

Grey Knight Dreadnought w/ two DCC and Incinerator, and Blessed (Benefitted from The Shrouding)

EDIT: All units from game 1 were in game 2, in addition to the ones listed in game 2. Game 2 was a bigger game.

No, we will not eat him. We may question him on why he's come to a tyranid forum for advice on his inquisition army.

I will be moving this to the other games workshop section, as we try and keep the tactics board for tyranids only.

Your big problem is numbers. Wow, there's not a lot of models there.

The GK HQ with Termy retinue is a monster, there's no denying that, but I've always been a bit wary of the points cost. Try to cut down on the numbers there if you can.

More troops. You're not gonna score with two squads of Sisters. They may have power armour and Bolters, but they do die pretty easily in combat.

I've never been that sold on Seraphim. They're good against some stuff, but easy to shoot down.

Dreadnoughts shouldn't bother with Flamers IMO. If one's lumbering towards you it's probably going to get shot up unless there's other high speed threats - could work with the immolator, actually.


I think your big problem is, if you go up against an enemy where Flamers are pretty ineffective, you're going to struggle. Really, you need flamers on counterattack units or fast units.

Get some Rhinos for the sisters, and possibly take out the seraphim and some of the upgrades on the Dread. Lower the Termy retinue and ditch the incinerator, they're a lot of points who might suffer deepstriking in. You need durability here, and you don't have much of that.


Also, if you find yourself with some points free, the Psycannon is astounding for the profile alone - the ignoring invul. is just a nice anti-Daemon bonus.

Sorry I didnt post in the right forum. Its been a while.

One more question: does the Act of Faith that causes bullets to be rending work on flamers? I have heard things about that, but since they don't roll to hit I don't know what to make of it.

The act of faith does not cause them to be rending. It makes any to WOUND roll of 6 be Ap1 on shooting weapons.

This does count for flamers - counts for every gun wielded by an eligible model. I've seen Sisters do horrible things in Planetstrike as a result - being able to stick a rending flamer into a Bastion's window upsets the Spezz Muhrines inside.

Rending flamers are the sole reason as to why Dominions have 2 weapon options ( full load-out, no mixes) instead of just 1.

1. Flamer equipped dominions (combi-flamer on Vet) in an Immolator disembark.
2. ? ? ?
3. Profit!

It's just a pity it doesn't work on Wraithlords, but really, if you're sending flamer dominions on a Wraithlord you're doing it wrong.

Once I saw an Eldar vs. Sisters Match.

A Penitent Engine was on it's way to the Avatar (never a good thing) and was within 3" of it. In the shooting phase, I remembered the Engine had a heavy flamer and yelled 'Shoot the Heavy Flamer first!' They then gave me THAT look as I slowly remembered the Avatar's rules.

To humour me, Sisters player did actually fire the Heavy Flamer. Hit the Avatar and did nothing, but also got a Wraithlord behind it - which it proceeded to wound, and the Eldar player failed his armour save.

Sisters guy now takes my advice much more often.

For starters, your list in the 2nd game was illegal.

I assume you are playing WH as your main list. In which case, if you allie DH, you can't take a DH Heavy Choice, ie: the dread.

You need rhino's for your sisters, they're squishy, so you need to protect them. I find seraphim work best in squads of 7, as it's easier to roll all acts of faith with that number, so long as you have the upgraded vet to roll 3d6 and choose 2 dice.

Also, get books on as many units as you can. All units with in 6" use that squads unmodified leadership... including the unit it's self. So no matter what the result of a close combat, you can always use full leadership.

I think you're also going to need more troops.
