SPACE HULK, is new one up to the hype?

I bought one, mainly for the models and a bud split it with me for the termies.......Having read the rule book and mission book I can see it being fun but I want to hear from people if it is awsome?

It's pretty fun, but most of the missions are really unbalanced one way or the other. Marines always win or genestealers always win.

Playing 1v1 gets a bit boring. I got the most fun out of it when playing with 4 or 5 people, two of them controlling the genestealers and the others taking a few marines each.

I had loads of fun with it, mostly with my family. They like playing Monopoly and the like, and have no interest in 40K or anything, so it was quite refreshing that they all loved it!
Me and my girlfriend also play quite a bit, which is nice.
The missions are pretty difficult, which is why I like it, although there was a mission developer created on the GW site if you ever get bored of the standard missions.

The game is quite tactical, and you will often hear different groups claim that different missions are unbalanced. In my group marines almost always win mission 1, while another group that I know have problems with the very opposite. It's a great game that really forces you to think several turns ahead, yet forces you to be flexible enough to deal with any unexpected situations.

Best game ever.

This version has the best miniatures and counters. Has many of the best rules from previous versions including parts of the Deathwing expansion.
However it doesn't have the awesomeness of all the cool extra rules of 1st ed Deathwing nor all the extra scenarios and the random map-generator or the moody cross-hatch art that made it such an atmospheric set of rulebooks for it's day. It's also a bit light on background especially as Deathwong had an entire short story in it explaining the origin of the white terminator armour.

This version has also made it a little easier on the marine player with the guard special rule and with adding assault cannons and especially the thunder hammer seargant and lightning claw to the original missions. The guard rule is especially altering of previous editions tactics.

Overall i think it's the best version of the best of this genre of game ever.

I would have liked to see an expansion including the other campains like the necromunda campain and some of the other rules (a simpler and more balanced version of the psychic system from the Genestealer expansion wpuld be good) and i think it'd be great to see all the old art reprinted in larger format. 40k really needs it's own history-of-40k book. But still it's the best thing I've seen from GW in years.

arsonfire: Of course termies or stealers always wins, I mean come on they are the only two factions you got ^^. Anyway the game is great.

the game is really great except for one thing. they made it easier for the marines with guard, sustained fire on over watch and easier clearing of the jammed bolter. but the scenarios are mostly the same as in the original game. back then they were nail biting affairs, now they are a bit slanted to the marines.
the minis and board and such are great though, A1 quality and easy to learn, hard to master though. it is the sign of a good game to have easy rules which brings it all down to tactics and a bit of luck if you are daring enough to push it.

This is an excellent game as a doorway to getting other peeps who don't play 40K into the game...or if they don't want to do that, a way for you to play 40K with people you normally would not. It's a very different kind of strategy game for most but easily picked up, but hard to master. Makes for a great evening! Also perfect for travel!

it was a bit expensive lol. i played a mission in which omnio got so many nid kills that we had to give him honours. 150 stealers and a broodlord!" it was a long map, and soo many stealers got in it was unreal. ovrewatch all th way, with the other brothers bringin up the rear to stop backstabbers. and the overwatch. that helped like (bleep)

Omnio in our first game was on Fire. He killed at least 4 stealers in CC. There's always one of them who does that...

Sadly, it's never the bloke with the power sword. He dies fast, every time...

The only change we do to the rules is to not keep command points a secret. Mainly because it allows for those tense moments when a marine is stood in a corridor desperately fending off a horde and trying not to jam too much..

I brought a set for the school I work at and out of 3 tries on mission 2 In the last attempt the sarge brought it in his first combat, opening the way for stealers to flod past and catch the other marines on their blind side.

It ended with leon backing down the corridor firing short controlled bursts, trying to make the stealers run out of blips.

I used to play it like 4 years ago with a friend, the time I wasn't even playing wh40k and it was a great game, even the old models didn't look all that bad. When I recently tried the new SH it didn't have something, the old version had, but it's still a really good boardgame, but I doubt I would buy it, maybe with someone and just to get those nice stealers.
