Screamer Killer or Sything Tyrant?

Ok, well here's the long short of it, I've never converted anything before and I've suddenly decided I need to convert a crud-load of stuff. I plan on getting a battleforce and squeezing 11 gargoyles, and 2 biovores out of it, and on top of that I thinking of turning the fex into eather a screamer killer elite fex (simple enough) or a flying tyrant , it would be alot cheaper than buying a battleforce AND a new tyrant. Am I getting in over my head? What were the surcumstances around your first conversions? Did it require a lot of learning?

Edit: also suggestions for garg wing materials would be appreciated

Scything Flyrant, definitely!

You'll want to do some modifications to make it less like a fex and more like a tyrant.

For the body you'll want to cut off the peg on the ball joint that goes up into the chest, and shave down the first one or two rectangular spines that keep the model from standing upright.

Elongating the neck, Carving the chin to a point, and enlarging the rear of the skull with some greenstuff will also make him look more like a tyrant. The greenstuffing can be tricky for a first time convertor. Just make a mental note to yourself about the structure of the nech being a series of furrows with little holes along them before you begin, and make sure you have a small enough tool to work with. Tyrants also tend to have ankle claws, which can be made from the gaunt thumbs on devourer feeder tube arms.

Many Flyrants these days have taloned feet, and If you want to know how it's done just ask. Here are two different examples.Both require the knuckle sections from a pair of warrior scything talons from the MC arms sprue, and thornback bits for short claws or hormagaunt scything talons cut at the elbows for longer claws.

Something I've seen on a couple of models that looked really good, was Scything Talon legs with the hoof cut off and replaced by the slightly smaller carnifex scything talon blades. See examples by a couple of different warpshadow convertors below.

i need a new fex kit, but when i get it i am going to convert it to a gargoyle themed flyrant with devourers sything talons and bio-plasma. ill curve its tail and stick a blade at the end. after that i will lean its head downward and extend its head like on a garg.

Well, my Fex to Flyrant conversion is here. Some bits (mostly the Wings) were kind of tough to do, but I've got to say, the best way to improve is to set your sights high.

There's a Gargoyle Wing tutorial here that looks pretty good, but I haven't used it as I'm going to be doing Insect type wings for mine and his use Batwings. That conversion involves wire, putty, and some thin paper, insect wings can be pretty much just any thin clear plastic and some work with a permanent marker.

Thanks for the tips, I can't wait to get started. By the way, westrider, your flyrant looks amazing! But I think I would want mine to be more dragon-esqe. Perhaps by the time I finish I'll be able to figure out how to put pictures on the computer to post updates. I'd better get to work .

Thanks! I went with the Insect wings mostly just because I could make them easily from stuff I had on hand. Laziness, in a word The big thing that I feel sets mine apart from other Flyrants I've seen is putting the Wings in the middle joints and using the leg joints simply as another set of arm joints, so he effectively has no legs.

The Gargoyle Wing technique in the second link could probably be scaled up to Tyrant wings without too much trouble, for something more dragon-like. Or there are the usual standbys of WFB Dragon Wings or LotR Balrog wings. I've also seen some pretty good results from people who just searched through toy stores until they found a dragon or something that had wings they liked and used those.

Ok, my tyrant is coming together pretty well I'd say. I've taken your advice and made it stand up taller, added some of those toe things, shaved its chin down and added a horn. The gaunt thumbs were WAY too small however for the toe things, but the thumbs on my spare MC sything talons worked quite nicely. I havn't done any wings yet however. The guy who owns the local gameshop showed me his winged tyrant, and I was encouraged because he just ordered them and they fit perfectly on it's shoulders. But then we lookd at mine and the fex's body is a bit bigger so it wouldn't fit as well . He suggested we get some bigger wings, but I'm conserned that might complicate transportation. So anyway, I was a bit lazy in that I didn't do anything very inspired, but it's my first conversion, and I like it. Oh, and I realy need to do something with the tail...
And sorry still no pics, I still am not sure how to do that.
