I have just started up playing again after many years and was excited to see the option for creation of custom fleets (only to be disapointed with how lopsided  it is via how much you give up for just some minor aspect of versitilty.) anyways just was wanting to hear other peoples experience who may of played custom fleets. Is it fun, is it's trade off some what worth it? or is it such a loss in power that playing becomes impossible to have any chance of winning a game?

I am not sure if i ever will enter the competitive circuit, and right now it is just me and some friends gearing up for narrative play  types.

With how our customs and hyper adaptations work, it's incredibly bad. The core fleet traits are often stronger, you get psychic power (and sometimes strat/WLT/relic will be decent), and still have a single pick from 2/3 of the custom trait options. Very little to avail themselves, and it's not like there's really any crazy combos either.

Honestly if you chose two from a single profile as your main then got to choose a secondary from the others, it would be much more useful.

It would be great if you could choose your parent hive fleet and gain its relics/powers/WL Trait alongside whatever you chose.

May see about custom rules to do just that with friends
