While they have not gone too hard on the nerfs in 9th so far, the fact there were so many Tyranids in the top 10 of gws own tournament could make them overreact.
Reading the latest competitive innovations article at goonhammer we seem very strong though many are pre faq I believe. I like the list theorising and optimisation portion of the game but at the level we are at I get nervous that I will totally stomp the opposition.
I never counted the number of time in the previous editions where I just had to do with sub par unit, facing SpaceMarine for exemple, that had ridiculously better everything in everyway and had to play so strategically to win that it was always an uphill battle even before beginning the game.
Now, I finally feel like we are amongst the good codex, with units finally being able to be used against their match without feeling cheated. I can play without feeling the usual "I'm nid, so basically I have to make points while my army is getting torn appart. But If I do it correctly, I might be able to still win". With a decent codex and the experience I gained with being used to fight with a sub par codex, now it seems way more easy, but that's just becasue I was used for it to be soo hard to fight against anything.
I just don't understand why would anyone try to suggest nerf to it's own army... I don't have more fun just because I play on hard mode...
Although, of course some adjustment are required. The first FAQ had mostly things that were warranted. Still a bit sad with the synapse being aura, but honestly, that's not that bad and up to some points, I feel it feels more right. I mean, I have in mind the zergs in starcraft, with the humans developping ways to severe theirs links with the have mind or suppress it. It's not common, but i'm sure it's the kind of thing that could happen in fluff world.
Some points adjustement on some units is pretty much all the is needed to keep a strong codex while not being OP. Most (maybe not all) of the major issues were addressed in the FAQ.
