Genstealers, a very different beast?

Puretsrain genstealers in GSC are WS2+ 4+ invonerbale save.

Regular genstealers are WS3+ and 5+ invonerbale save. But have a whole lot of other rules. Very odd.

They have the 4++ in melee.

I am not sure on them tbh. They can do pressure really well especially if going first though. Expensive unit to try to hide midfield in the SMS meta though.

IMO as a melee threat they are not worth it, Ravenors and warriors do a better job for the points. What makes stealers special is their Vanguard predator rule. That forward deployment gives instant board control where you might want to pressure and protects you from deepstriking threats. I dont see myself really using them in full broods for melee, but smaller units to quickly contest points of interest on the board and to protect my main army. That I can see.

5-man GS unit w/ 20 AP-3 attacks for 80pts is honestly fairly pts efficient compared to Ravs/Warriors from an offensive perspective, and the forward deploy means better reach for T1 Actions/charges (pretty big factor since we lost all double move). Hive fleet plays a big role in comparing efficiency as well, GS are better than either in Gorgon & Behemoth (maybe Hydra) and Ravs/Wars are better in everything else.

Hive Tendril GS are CORE in comparison to purestrain GS, and thus can gain many different buffs (esp Obj Sec). I think HTGS are in a good place, though they are priced 1-2 pts higher than they probably should be.

Forward Deploy doesn't seem worth losing Advance and Charge and going up 3ppm. Even though now you can respawn models with their Infestation Pod.

2 10 man squads blot out deep strikers and make the opponent hesitate to use their pre game move. They get a solid alpha strike and can scare gun lines if hidden properly. Not saying theyre awesome due to pts but interesting definitely.

If I'd have Stealers in my starting army I'd want to use the Vanguard deployment, but that's very terrain dependant since I don't know whether I go first or second when I deploy them.

After reviewing the new codex, and how fragile guants are with their new point values. Min sized units of stealers for performing actions?

Yes they lost Advance and charge, but gained 1 attack flat, all attacks are AP-3, and a 4++ in melee. They look good as a 5-man unit for board pressure, the 10-man needs a 1-2 ppm drop to really be great.

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm leaning towards hard pass. 16ppm as a 5 man squad for actions? Take termagants for less and twice the wound count. Or a minimum warrior squad for almost twice the wounds and 5 points less, + synapse and etc.

Id say they are best in lists trying to go for the alpha strike feel but going second they still serve a purpose...

Since they have a 5++ built in and will be deployed in cover i think they would be attractive bullet sponges and might get some of the more punchy armies to step out of thier deployment. 2-5man units might not be a bad set with a 50/50 chance of being part of a large scale alpha or be a decoy that might take some effort to remove...idk how hard they would be to remove but with 2/3's of the field as a deployment zone im sure we could get creative and make them useful in more then a mindless yeeting way.

Neither of those can reliably threaten far quarter RND, Deploy Homers, or investigate T1 like GS can (even midfield objectives for banners). Loss of metabolic makes that vanguard deployment a premium outside of Kraken.
