Best Non-FW options for Kaiju AoR?

Personally I like the idea of a hive tyrant with murderus sieze and new relic Sabres to slice through invulnerable saves. I have a friend who run Mortarion. That 18W, T8, 3+,4++, 5+++ reduce damage by 1 is so annoying. But with stratagems I can get the flyrant to S7, Ap3 D4. Then he only saves on 6+ and 5+++ I have not done the math, but it could be fun.

Make sure to slam him with breaking through and Thunderous impact, will drastically up your wound count, maybe reroll wounds too, but thats 4cp into one round of combat

4cp for a dead Mortarion is plenty fine.

Assuming we go for ignore invul -

2+ S7, 5A+2d3, ap-3, 4D with +2D on 6s, rerolling to hit and wound, and +1/+1/+1 vs MC/vehicle.

Classical SupFly with SoT -

2+ S8, 5A+2d3, 5+ explodes, ap-4, 4D with +1D on 6s, +1 to wound, rerolling hit and wound,
and +1/+1/+1 vs MC/Vehicles.

Funnily enough, the guy with the +1 to wound would be best suited to go after elites, and the guy with anti elite is best suited to go after vehicles... what a weird world this is.

On a side note. Rerolling to hit exploding 5s with min 6-11Acis actually pretty powerful. Let's say going into THSS terminators:

9A average. 2+ to hit, 7H. 3xplodes. Reroll 4+2, 5H, 2 more explodes. Total of 6+7,13H??? 2+ to wound, 11 wounds, 2 are 6s for +1D (but let's assume the 2 both saved). 4++ is 5 goes through, which is 5 dead Termis on the dot.

Vs Thicc City, its 11W, 5++, so 7-8 go through. 4/4 is a dead Talos, but damage reduc and fnp - you kill 2.5, which is falling just a bit short.

Vs Transhuman BGVs. 13H, 4+ rr wounds is 7 + 3 so 10 wounds. Actually pretty close.

If I could, I'd bring both.

To note, no other nonFW MCs hold a candle to the Flyrants, if just because of movement speed. The Trygon would be the closest from a damage output profile basis, and the Haruspex is a bit unique in that it can do multiple platforms without sacrificing much of anything. Having access to ac special relic or a wlt is a big deal.

Of course, unless they're an idiot they've got no rrs, and you...don't bounce, but 3 CP for ~9 wounds when you've got that much investment and probably just die on the backswing is not good. Nice that we've got a bit of finisher access though.

Also you can't get rr hits with either of the fun flyrant builds (well, technically Levi strat, but meh), power is non-Synapse. And strat is +1 to the damage roll, so doesn't help non-random damage.

I really must protest the injustice of not being able to take murderous size on the Fleshborer hive.

On another note, the Harpy is crazy good now. Get obsec, fly over there, steal objective. Or fly over there, drop mines, charge a character, do flat 6 mortal wounds. Or get +1 to hit and actually do something decent with those guns.

Same goes for Mawloc, even though it can't get obsec that easily.

Imagine going second: Fly up obsec harpy to opponent objective, score stranglehold and flip 5-10 primery VP from the opponent. Round 2, pop a mawloc somewhere they don't have obsec, repeat. Round 3 do it again with another mawloc. Could be you are 20-25 primary VP ahead by round 3, AND you have the 5th round as a second player to score as you like.

I’d second a Mawloc or two. I think they’re going to be stellar. More for scoring stranglehold and denying primary, than scoring it yourself. That’s gonna be the difference I think.

Because a Harpy is very easy to shoot dead if you go second.

Except you can't obsec so you can't consistently interact with anything at all, you also can't do any good/focused damage, nor safe chip. Harpy also has more moveblock util and fight last util. It is a bit more expensive, but well worth it as far as I'm concerned. Being shot T1 is...well, you're probably not hiding everything, and you've got enough mobility you can deploy fairly freely to stay safe, or at least be problematic to deal with, esp with the AoR defensive ability. Perfect? No, but definitely feel it's substantially better than a mawloc.

Their only changeup is 4+ harpy 3+ mawloc. can give either transhuman to reduce numbers, but you can give a -1 hit mally/veno to the harpy and can also get a 4++.

I would also consider its bad touch to be superior imo.

Just spitballing here; Any consideration of the humble sporocyst in Stampede army? It has the same defensive profile as a harpy so it also gains a lot of survivability from the 5++ and damage reduction. 135pts with barbed stranglers gives you a viable tool to clear screens from a low priority platform that is our second best points per wound monster. With bioweapon bond for units of less than 10 or innate +1 for 10+ models it is reasonably accurate and lays down up to 30 shots. While they can't hold objectives, you do gain early Engage on All Fronts and spore mines to start plugging up the mid board. In the two practice games I've played I have seen that increasing synapse web to help with bouncing links could be beneficial. Bombardment Organism allows to be set up "anywhere on the battlefield" outside 9" which should beat the 3" restriction for fortifications

If you have enough space in your deployment zone for a monster base to fit more than 3" away from other terrain you're going to get shot to death in the first place.

I thought the sporeocysts could deploy out side of deployment zones? Plus if they are shooting a Scyst not my second Dima I'm 😊!

They can, but unless you're on planet bowling ball there typically isnt much space on a 9th table for more stuff after terrain is done

well that's my point. Bombardment organism says "anywhere the battlefield that is more than 9" from enemy units or enemy deployment zone." Fortification rules in the faq say "Units with the Fortifications Battlefield Role are terrain features that are part of your army. Unless otherwise stated, when setting Fortifications up on the battlefield, they cannot be set up within 3" of any other terrain feature that is not part of its own datasheet." Its simply a question of "anywhere on the battlefield" superceding the 3" requirement. Sporocysts also lack either the terrain or building keyword (which the Miasmic Malignifier does have) lending to them being different. If they do have to remain 3" outside then they do remain pointless
