That model is amazing, never once thought of making something like that, and I agree that the gargoyles need obsec. They are too squishy like most infantry for nids that would make them more appealing. I would also like to see some of our more Unique units that have spawned throughout the invasions. The Parasite of Mortrex, Doom of Malantai, or maybe a new and improved swarmy that actually lives up to its hype. 

Side note* I would love to see a rules change for our swarms that allowed them to turn killed models into new units without having to use reinforcement points. Seems like that is in brand for nids to eat a space marine and spawn a warrior or something like that. Perhaps it could be a once per game Stratagem that costs like 6CP that allows us to convert killed models into equal points units for one turn. Maybe to OP but they could water it down or something I'm sure.

Also I think a warp beast that can project a Zoanthrope-like shield to give smaller units a invuln save would be amazing.

In my opinion its a valid option as onslaught is capable of negating its penalties and is a unique weapon that is a decent FLI

My first reaction was that this looked like a sarcastic attempt to define a bad weapon in the usual GW fashion. My apology, but I was feeling salty at the time.

Then I took another look, ran some numbers and you were right, it wasn't a bad weapon, specialized at taking out targets with 2+ saves. Devourers being 2 points cheaper are similar against regular MEQ in the open and then start to get ahead.

But it would be very specialized and even in the best case scenario, it would still require like 108 points of spike gants to kill a single terminator without a stormshield, on average. That's not enough.


It would need something extra to become a valid choice. Ideally some sort of defense debuff in the fashion of old Roman legion pilum - prevent the target unit from receiving positive modifiers to armor save until the end of phase, something like that. And a cheeky stratagem for spike rifles that halves movement and charge distances of a target unit until your next turn.

24" range I think would fulfill its niche.
That would give you enough range that some spikerifle gaunts could sit on a midfield objective all game and still contribute.
At 18" it will always be compared to Devourers, but at 24" range it can fill a different battlefield role.

Agreed, we need something more mobile and midrange that isnt a monster simply because our shooting monsters typically dont like getting into melee. At least thats been my experience.
