Thought I'd share a list that's really unorthodox when compared to the standard competitive list. The list went 3-2 at a fairly large event and it features a strange yet effective way to deal with large amounts infantry with the use of devilgaunts in tyrannocytes to drop in and shoot. Just thought it was a really interesting spin on a competitive list that's not dimachaerons. ++ Battalion Detachment 0CP (Tyranids) [100 PL, 11CP, 1,998pts] +++ Configuration +Battle Size [12CP]: 3. Totally worth it just for that incredibly rare situation where you can cast Symbiostorm on a Kronos Barbed Strangler Tyrannocyte that's about to unload on a horde unit (triggering extra hits on 5+)

Adaptive Physiology taken w/ only one physiology in the list? Something is amiss...
I like the T-cytes more for the Exo's than the DevGants. I thought losing the ability to stand still after coming out of reserves hurt more than the gained ability to fallback and standstill, and this remedies the situation. I don't even think the Devgants are 100% necessary with the T-cytes, and the points towards some front screening bodies instead could be better as there is nothing to really stop the opponent from diving in to the deployment zone.
Pyrovore vs 3rd Lictor would have opened up AG on both Tyrants, and would have been my preference.
Nice to see some out of the box thinking though, thanks!

My mistake. The other adaptive Physiology went on the Hive Guard. The list has been updated.

You're still moving coming out of a t-cyte, so you suck. Not sure how I feel about the list: devilgants can be great, but suffer into certain armies (*cough* marines), and 115 pts to deliver them (I mean, t-cytes can do stuff, but enough to justify inclusion?), especially when strat reserves and Kraken exists? Hmm...And double hybrid flyrant: I've played flyrants quite a bit, they were often underwheling a lot of the time.

The list seems to score engage on all fronts, retrive data and behind enemy lines using the drop pods to help max out these secondaries. My guess is the drop pods drop in a deployment zone and score until your opponent commits to killing them taking pressure off the rest if the list.

You can't engage and BEL. You're also going to struggle to drop a t-cyte in a DZ. It may be good for sticking around to score T4/5, as opposed to the lictors/rippers, which are much easier to kill. But it's not like they're hard to kill, 12 wounds T6 4+ is...super vulnerable to meta weapons targetting T6 10 wounds 4+/5++ (i.e. raiders).

The marines "shoot the deepstrikers" strat would only be able to target the spore pod. The devgants are going to be considered to be disembarking after the strat trigger is used/dismissed, so they wouldnt be on the field when the marines are deciding to use the strat or not and thier only targetable choice would be the spore pod.
This works the same way with marine drop pods and is the only reason to even bring them for both armies.
*disclaimer* This is how it has been ruled in my neck of the woods and my play groups are very dedicated MTG players so I acknowledge it MIGHT be ruled differently in larger WH40k tournaments, but i dont think it would be.

DevGants immediately disembark as a part of the rule for the Tyrannocyte, so they certainly enter the battlefield during the reinforcement step. Auspex Scan is at the end of the reinforcements step. Since DevGants are on the field prior to the end of the reinforcement step, they are a legal target. I think your group may have a unique ruling regarding this interaction. Note that is not a bad thing, at least there is a reason for the transport for your group. —Edit— The interaction you explain is 8E Auspex Scan.

Yeah, the auspex scan has changed in the 9th ed codex.
I still don't understand why the Hive mind can't figure out any reaction to incoming enemy reserves but...*shrugs*

Synapse is basically a bunch of individuals reporting back to the boss, story gets garbled. =P

With the recent trend to nerf all those shoot/fight/move twice stratagems we might see a nerf to kraken in our next codex so the 'cytes might see somewhat of an uptick in viability.
