I have heard lots of complaints about how long it has been since Tyranids got a new unit, model, or recast. I'm curious exactly how long it has been. Personally, I'd be happy with a flyrant with four arms if we ever get anything new.

X of baal or something along those lines, theres also been rumour mills that have a very large likeness to tyranid units so the cries of the "masses" might have been heard

Are you just trying to depress me? The worst part, is that I don't even want new kits. I just want good rules. :<

I knew it was bad. I had no idea it was that bad. I'm shocked it's been 7 years already. No wonder 'nids feel stale. It's not just bad rules, it's been years since we got something cool to play with. Remember how exciting it was when the Swarmlord/hive tyrant went from that heavy metal model to plastic? Then in a short time we got tervigon, tyranocyte, toxicrene, exocrene, maleceptor, toxicrene, tycytes, harpies/hive crones, broodlord, venomthrope/neurothrope. We were really feeling the love.

You've done so many posts I thought you had been around longer.

Don't compare how much stuff we got compared to SM. That's really not fair to any codex. Look at how much stuff we got compared to other armies. I always thought Nids had the most "newer" models out of every army that wasn't just revamped (Grey Knights, Dark Eldar, Necrons). But that was back in 5th and maybe that's too far back? You guys would have to tell me.

We were feeling the plastic love in 6th and 7th, but our rules were generally garbage, especially it seemed with the new kits we kept getting.
7 years of Nidvembers and Nidsmas with nothing to show for it is pretty rough though. I had hopes when our 8th ed codex came out and it was actually pretty decent only for a BRB FAQ to nerf us into mediocrity within a month or so. Man, now I am sounding salty...

You guys would have to tell me. Grey Knights got the primaris treatment. I think even their normal units got redone, but it may just have been a reboxing. Dark Eldar has quite a few new models but most are updates of older units. They have the newest 40K range though, so that isn't a great comparison. Necrons have completely changed aesthetic since their 7th codex. I'm not sure they have a single unit that wasn't upgraded outside of C'tan shards. Nids did get a lot of love back then, but that was a while ago. You know you're getting old Pathos when the 'new' models you are referencing have been around longer than 50% of 40K players.

The Grey Knight models didn't change. Their newer boxes just gave them larger bases (25mm to 32mm).

No, no. What we were referring to is that GKs got a whole range back in 5th. Like how DG and SoB got theirs recently.
My point, besides the big 'knight' models (Wraithknights, Obelisks, Gorka/Morka-nauts, giant Tau gun platform of doom) that a lot of armies were getting (save us, of course), Nids were getting substantially more. Either new kits or new models of older ones. From 5th edition and onward, got almost everything in the codex. I was actually typing them all out when I realized that the only things NOT new or remodeled were the spore mines, both Gaunts, Lictors, and Genestealers (not including special characters). That is NUTS when you actually think about it. Has any other army that hasn't gotten an entirely new range come even close to that? And that is not an argumentized statement, I am legit asking. Outside of brand new armies (SoB, DG, Mechanicus) or new ranges for existing ones (GK, DE, Necrons), who has gotten more stuff collectively than we have during the 5th-7th time frame?
Again, not arguing, just pointing out some perspective and asking legit questions.

Again, not arguing, just pointing out some perspective and asking legit questions. Fair point. Dark Eldar also. They are a completely new range in that timeframe. Their old aesthetic was fugly compared to what they have now. I think Dark Eldar is a great example of what we could hope for. I hope they can get our army to feel as good as Dark Eldar has felt in the past 2 codexes as far as playability and the feel of the army. They are powerful but not overpowered. But they need to get the rules right. New units: Exocrine: has been really good across the board haruspex: hasn't been playable, period, I own 3 and I have never taken even 1 in an even semi-serious list maleceptor: largely unplayable, it had situational usefulness in one specific list, but I've never played it in a serious list (also have 3 of these) toxicrene: great model, it's okish, I took 3 to a GT and I went 2-4, and that's with them at the best they've been since launch t-cyte: I have loved this unit and used it to great effect, but almost unplayable in 9th from what I've seen sporocyst: every iteration of an attempt for rules for it have been more ridiculous than the last harpy: largely awful but I did have fun with it in the flying circus list, it was at least fun, absolute trash since beginning of 8th hive crone: excellent unit in 6th and part of 7th, utter trash now (to be fair the harpy and hive crone are more a result of GW finding no way to make flyers balanced)Best models in the game. The new models are especially good. But having 87% of your models unplayable for any semi-serious games really makes some feels bads, at least for me. And I've bought at least 3 of every kit variant.

I was about to call out an untruth. I mean it hasn't been 7 years since those releases surely. Then I checked the WD with those release rules, remembered as I get older time goes faster and now sit here wondering whats happened in those 7 years. Yikes. I'm actually not fussed that we haven't had any new models as our current roster is very good and its saved my wallet. But I do think we need an up to date book now.
