Rock cutter killing the unkillable

Realized one thing playing against my sons orks today. If a rock cutter wounds Ghaskul and he failes the roll. He is slain. Even though he can’t take more than 4 dammage a turn. Same goes for Necron version of Ghaskul, that only can take limited dammage. It is a small chance of this ever happen, But it may come in play. Even killing a wounded Mortarion or some other demon with good saves.

There is also the Bloodthirster, but I am curious if this is an actual workaround or an ability GW forgot GSC had. As it has -1 still I can imagine it has been long forgotten.

Don't you have to roll higher than their remaining wounds on a d3?

AoS has a similar mechanic on a few models. They to initially didn't have protection against instant kill effects but their newer versions do, if they would be instantly killed they take the max wounds they are allowed to instead (and any over the cap are ignored).

But since AoS and 40k teams don't communicate the 40k team made the same mistake.

After you wound with a rock-cutter you roll aD6. If it is higher than the remaining wounds, it is slain. So if the cutter takes Ghaskhul down to 5 or 4 this can come in to play and so to speak ignore his last bracket.
Like I said, very much must be in place for this to happen, but it can happen.

It's funny and quite possibly trolltastic, if nothing else.

I'm mostly against the -1 to Hit; it basically makes it on par with Rock Saws other than vs DG. You're still not taking down a 5 man Terminator/BGV unit, and therein lies the problem, esp considering the immense work you need to put in to land that unit.

With some tweaks this could be a huge thing, honestly. Similarly with Drills, which is swingy but funny all the same. 2+/3+/4+ to deal continuous mortal wounds? I'm sure any marine player will feel bad about having to deal with MWs being shat out of melee weapons taking down their hardy stuff.

Poxwalkers killed my swarmlord last game literally by hitting it so I hope they do feel bad

Drill is worse because it's are all attacks versus each time a model takes a wound. With the prevalence​ of elite infantry i think the cutter is very valid.
