Returning player and new to the Swarm

Well, heck and all, I should have posted here. My backstory and question is similar to roygbiv (the OP), but my story includes also includes a vintage circa 1994 Nid Battleforce box set (3 warriors, 12 genestealers, 16 hormagaunts, 16 termagaunts, 3 ripper swarms that I'm stretching to 4-5 via conversion/kitbashing--I'm primarily an ork player--it's what we do ), and a metal Ole One-Eye as well. I'll magnetize the monster, and hive guard the hive guard, and probably build the swarmlord, and like the idea of lictors (I play with a fair number of kommandos). I kinda like the idea of maybe more gargoyles for aesthetic reasons, and might pick up a 4 pack more of warriors (one of them a tyranid prime) from a friend. What else should I be on the look out for? I'm not looking for super competitive (again, I play tactical orks), but would like to be able to hang a bit at least until a new Tyranid Codex appears.

First off, I don't think you have a battleforce box from 1994. The codex was released in 1995 after all. I don't know all the battleforces released over the years, so I could be wrong; but the numbers match up better to the 3rd edition battleforce. If it was from 1994 it would have ant head warriors and metal giger hormagaunts.

Anyway, you've got most of what you need for a well rounded army. Old One-Eye is a sneaky good HQ choice. He's better with carnifex, but using the swarmlord to make him a guided missile is also viable. You've also got enough troops to fill out a battalion, so you've got the bases covered.

Going forward filling out your squad of hive guard and adding a second heavy support wouldn't be a bad thing. Another exocrine is good though a t-fex works as well. Also, a pair of lictors to grab objectives is a solid move.
