Considering buying a hierophant or harridan

Hey guys so I’ve been saving up for a very large purchase and I’m on the fence about which lord of war I want to buy . With the new rules released they both seem pretty nice but I would like to hear you’re guys view . I really like both models but which one would be more practical to own and more practical to play in games. Thank you guys for your time.

The harridan seems like the more practical choise at the moment. I own a hierophant and it is so wide that moving it around the table is a hassle. Harridan I do not own, but it has a smaller footprint and higher move characteristic, so moving it around seems easier.

Yeah, Hierophant gets killed by its base size. Would be amazing if you could play him without a base (measuring to any part of the model like Grav Tanks), towering over the terrain.

My vote would be for the Harridan. I bought and painted a Heirophant back when it came out. I sold it and don't regret it. Its too big and spindly. I had to build a custom base for it so that the tips of its legs wouldn't snap and its front legs wouldn't bend under its own weight. Then that massive base made it even more impossible to move around the board.
The harridan looks a lot more manageable

Model wise the harridan is more manageable from the looks of it, but its also a heavy solid block of resin. They're both somewhat unwieldy.

If you're looking for toys for the sake of toys, I'd go harridan for slightly better ease. If you're looking for a fun hobby project, heirophant has many awesome looking diorama you can make.

If it's for actual gaming purposes, neither - look at the smaller bugs.

This link shows how to kitbash your own hierophant using a couple of T-Fex kits for WAY cheaper and it comes out looking pretty good. It has been on my to do list forever.

I have never seen anything that could be done to make a proper stand in for the Harridan.

Don't, unless you just want it for the hobby value. They never see the table (even pre-covid). I mean I took them to a tournament for (please do not swear) and giggles but I won exactly zero games. Everyone wanted pics though.

I had tons of fun kitbashing this Dima, all I needed apart from a few the head, torso tendrils and scy talons was a tervigon kit and some green stuff

i did this kitbash instead of buying a hierophant or harridan. I talked with a friend who built and painted them, they are both much too unwieldy for play. I advise you to have fun building/ bashing hierodules or Dimas  Instead of buying these horrible LoW in resin

The Harridan is more practical to own and more practical to play.

My Harridan lives in an 'under bed' type box with the wings removed for storage. For gaming it's resin base fits on a GW knight base and is stable yet flexible enough to be used. However I recommend using large pins for the wings and posing them at a slightly steeper angle than usually shown in FW pics, this helps the model fit around tall terrain features. It's a lovely model but it's aesthetic (as with all the FW Nids) is now quite old and quite removed from the modern Nids asthetic, especially the gargoyles ( I left mine off).

But the Heirophant is a wonderful and much more characterful model, it is more of a challenge to build and base. I used metal rods to support the legs and it's quite a buzz using a drill to make the holes for the rods, that being drilling large holes in expensive resin in the hope it will help and not leave your most expensive Nid disfigured. Aside from this the Heirophant is fun to assemble and base. I added a Tervigon birthing sac to mine with a stealer bursting out. He used to live on my filing cabinet beside my desk but since moving house he's stayed in his box in the attic, he hasn't touched the table in a long time.

With the new rules the 'dules'' and the Dima will be way more practical and will get a great deal more table time than our two LOW's.

Zoans are great in the current meta, carnifexen are a liability. But every one loves carnifexen.

Thank you for all the great responses!! I think I’ll buy the harridan After everyone replying. I expect to use it for fun and to be a nice little centerpiece of my army for now. I own a 3D printed scythed hierodule but I believe my next purchase will be the barbed one whenever I can do that. Have a great day everyone and thank you for your input

My local group has been really into crusades lately i feel like it has some value in crusade though i kinda have to agree the sheer durability of zoans my be better especialy considering that out of every 5 games i play 3 are against marines.

Gonna throw this in there, but my solution for both was clear acrylic rods. Let's you put the Harridan waaaay above everything so it doesn't catch on terrain, and keeps weight off the Hierophant's legs.

I did the Tervigon / stealer conversion too when FW first brought out the transport rules!

xtztxtxz your LoW look amazing, as do your dules. The transparent rods make the models look great, and now can remind your opponent of the fly rule for the hierophant Did you already manage to put all 5 of them in an apoc game ? If so, must have been quite a sight!
