Anyone knows if Tyler came up with something to counter the train-wreck fortification FAQ that killed our Sporocysts? He ran a cool board control Ripper army that won by dominating the board with movement and bodies. Sadly Sporocysts are unviable post-FAQ, which is why I'm asking if anyone know what he has come up with lately. He's based around Portland/North Bay area. Here's the podcast from a couple of months ago: poddtoppen.se/podcast/1385118894/best-in-faction/63-faction-focus-the-hive-mind-speaksLeviathan brigadeMalanthrope Neurothrope – warlord, Resonance Barb Neurothrope 5 Ripper Swarms 5 Ripper Swarms 5 Ripper Swarms 5 Ripper Swarms 5 Ripper Swarms 5 Ripper Swarms 5 Ripper Swarms 3 Ripper Swarms 4 Zoanthropes 4 Zoanthropes 4 Zoanthropes Mucolid Mucolid 3 Skyslasher Swarms Biovore Biovore Biovore Kronos FortificationSporocyst – Dermic Symbiosis Sporocyst – Dermic Symbiosis Genestealer Cult patrol 4AEMagus, The Crouchling - Undermine 5 Acolytes Sanctus 1995pts 8CP

I think I know this person but I have only seen him once during Covid and he seemed to be running a list similar to this. Was definitely lots of rippers and zoanthropes.

Wait, what is this FAQ that killed sporocysts...?

The latest FAQ says Fortifications can't be deployed within 3" of ANY terrain piece. Good luck deploying a Sporocyst on a standard 9th ed table with loads of terrain.

On a side note for everyone else - Necrons main playable build from the good folks from goonhammer/AoW is basically Ripper Carpet but with Scarabs. Sooo.... yea. We're about as durable as Scarabs per wound per pt, but they do have 10" movements, and a Chronomancer to give them a 5++(I'm just gonna say RP barely counts for this unit). The bigger movement is of course a point in their favour, but we can basically do the same thing they're doing with scarabs. Catalyst is pretty much a mandatory to copy the strategy though. The rest of it is as per current Tyranid strengths - in fact, the roundtable discussion touched on something in the new Necron codex that is very Tyranid - having a handful of good strategems that are very niche in application, making them a good candidate for toolbox play. And the lists do reflect some level of toolbox play. www.goonhammer.com/codex-necrons-competitive-roundtable/For anyone keen to read up. I think a fair bit of it is transferable to Tyranids, and Necrons right now will play like a less psychic entrenched/focused Tyranid army. I'd go so far as to say that Tyranids right now have even better tools/tricks, because we have EVERYTHING Necrons have other than Lokhust Destroyer full reroll to wound and Skorpekh Destroyer -1 to wound in any phase. Necrons just have new shiny and better basic guns, assuming they even play them (most of these lists dont play mass warriors or mass Tomb Blades, so not that many guns and would be on par to HG double shooting).

Sorry for the awful battlescribe formatting. This is the same person, I attended an rtt with him over the weekend and this is what he ran. He went 1-2. It was a very competitive group. Thanks. Odd that he still have 2 Sporocysts - how was he able to deploy them? Our standard tables have too much terrain.

However since terrain is placed after mission and objectives are set it is possible they adjusted each dz to have a place for them.

Adjusting terrain to commode fortifications? I guess that would have to be cleared with TO before the tournament.

Most tournaments have set terrain, you don't alter things between matches.

Most tournaments have set terrain, you don't alter things between matches. I run small local monthly 16 man tournaments and the first thing I tell them is place objectives and then readjust terrain if needed. For example if one side would have 2 objectives hidden and the other is one open and one hidden, the one with 2 hidden I would expect them to move terrain so its also 1 open and 1 hidden for balance. Same goes if there are not spots for knights to walk through and one player is knights. Terrain should have a massive impact on games but should not decide games IMO.

I think your stance is rare, and I could see it leading to competitive guys taking advantage, building terrain castles, creating chokeholes and feelsbads. I guess it works better in small 'friendly' tournaments, not sure if Tyler's RTT was that. I would expect salt from opponents blocked by Sporocysts between buildings.

When terrain is moved both opponents have to agree if they can't I will go over and make sure its fair.

Since 9th specifically states that terrain is placed after objectives I think it should be a normal part of the game to adjust a little bit. Also, the TO for the events I have attended has been taking feedback and adjusting terrain as events go on.
Frankly, I think fortification suck anyway. This is really the only player I have seen bring one.

There is a misunderstanding here. Forrifications can not be deployed inside of 3 inches UNLESS they have a different way of deploying. We deploy our Sporocyst different, its written on its datasheet. Sporocyst are alive and well.
