I’m not surprised. The meta has been geared towards killing tough armored, multi-wound models for a decade now. It’s so bad that people don’t care how many guys they can kill, just what the Ap of their guns are and how many wounds they can do.

The biggest problem with this army is that he’s got almost $700 in gaunts alone. How many people are willing to spend that much money on gaunts (let alone paint them) to win in the most boring way possible? Especially when the next edition could make all those models worthless?

I’m glad this guy did well. Taking home the bronze with an army that most everyone has written off is no small feat. I hope this inspires people to explore their local meta and find holes they can exploit for more victories.

I have half that number of gaunts painted but only have about 120 total... Still not a list I'd want to play any time soon.

that list works because heavy intercessors arent out yet. trying keeping 20 packs alive when they fire 20 shots 40 inches across the board from each squad

Heavy Intercessors will offer less firepower than regular ones when adjusted for points.

That is a *lot* of bodies though.

Hot take armchair prediction: people will start putting that horde clearing back in because of lists like this and orks, and it will become the new mid-table gatekeeper build.

That list looks like it would be valnerable to lists that try to hold you in your deployment zone. Alot of bodies can crowd the board to the point that you cant get around them.

Maybe, but I don't see this happening.

I think there's too many marine armies out there for a mid-table gatekeeper build to be successful. This is one list, and it only took third. It's also on the expensive side, boring to paint, and boring to play. The odds of seeing another list like this in a tournament are very slim. Any list that is geared towards beating this list is at a disadvantage at beating traditional top tier lists.

If we see some more of these bodies over bullets list come up, then we may see the meta start to shift.

i agree with you on boring to paint and play (i have not ever wanted to play a full horde army; if some folks do and think it's great that's good for you boo but it's very definitely not for me) and expensive, but if orks see continued success, by people will have to deal with it or get trucked. i think it is rather easily dealt with right now *if you bring the tools* but who knows what things will look like in a month.

as always during edition change, it's interesting times.

It’s hard (and mayby not relevant) to make lists to face things that aren’t out yet. Who knows what more that isn’t out?

No this list works because it has a solid gameplan to score points and a clever player to play it. He often does well with this kind of lists. Good job!

I guess that's where cult comes into play. Some additional blips and boom, try to charge it on turn one.

I don't expect to many lists to bring the tools to beat ~170 gaunts simply because not enough people bring such lists, because not that many own 170 gaunts or want to own/paint them.



It ofcourse also depends on what he faced.

Game 1 was Intercessors and Eradicators, no Aggressors.

Round 2 was Necrons with almost nothing but Wraiths and Skorphek Destroyers

Round 3 was a Dreadnought list with quad lascannon mortis dreads, again no Aggressors.

Round 4 was admech with a whole bunch of the new stuff that I have no clue about Oo

Round 5 was BA Sanguinary Guard spam.



Looks like a meta where to many people went to hard into anti-elites and not enough all-round.
