It's a big model. Roughly the size of a biovore.

While we're on the subject. How tall is a Malanthrope? Would a flyrant minus the wings be comparable? I think I've seen some people use that as a base for conversions.

Thanks. My pyrovore is only 5 cm tall. I will need to corect that next time.

You are not far. It was a little less than 6cm in total and 2-3mm were the basing.

Due to the long tail and the pose, the FW Malanthrope is extremely tall, about as tall as a Trygon. But 70% of that is the tail. A quick google search found this image from dakkadakka:

If you convert one, and want to use it in official GW tournaments, you probably want to make sure that your result is not significantly smaller than the original. If you use a flyrant tail as-is, you would need to put it on a large rock or something to get it closer to the appropriate height.
If it is not for tournaments, or the tournament organizers where you play are more lenient when it comes to conversion, this should not be that big of an issue.

I would try to make it the same basic profile. So like you said put it on a rock or sculpt my own tail.
