Gunzilla 9th ed

Battlescribe was updated with the new points today, I chugged my best 8th ed list into it and it came out at 2308pts...
So here's my attempt to recreate the archetype in 9th ed, I switched 2 Walkrants for Broodlords and cut a Carnifex to fit inside 2k.

I'm not convinced Jormungandr is better than Kronos, seems there's cc from turn 1 in 9th ed, but I'll try it out. Devourers may well make a return over Deathspitters, due to the smaller tables. But S7 is nice as I'm expecting more vehicles, and I'll probably be in range turn 1.

A tactic I can pull is to reserve one Exocrine and do Lurking Maws for a nice reroll.

To save 1 CP, you could both detachments into Patrols by moving 3 rippers down and the two carnifexes up without changing your list at all.

I'm also excited about using Lurking Maws with outflank in this edition. I posted another list where I'm using 2 broods of Shock Guard coming in from reserve. While the Impaler Guard went up 7 points, the Shock Guard only went up 1 point per model, and I think will be useful in a meta that seems to have a lot of vehicles and a lot of invuln saves. For me, Lurking Maws only seems worth it if it's used at least twice though, otherwise it's a one-time use power.

I played a game recently with a pretty similar list to this (6 shooty Jormungandr Carnifex, though my Exocrines and 6 Hive Guard were Kronos). I lost a close game to Death Guard. He had a huge 4++ bubble of vehicles slowly moving upfield that was tough to crack. More mortal wounds definitely would have been helpful.

That would be illegal, only 2 Heavy Support allowed in Patrols. And I can't afford the extra troop to make the Spearhead a Patrol.

Yeah I'd like to try out a Biovore/Zoanthrope spam list for board control and MW spam. I saw a battle report were nids with 3x5 Zoanthropes, Exocrines and Acidfex won against DG.

With that amount of HVC mayby the build your own trait with one re-roll to hit could be useful? Mayby together with ability to advance and shoot at ful BS for extra ability to get full range? I think i´d like to make some of them into a dakkafex, there will be demons, grots, Boyz, guardsmen even in this edition...

A single reroll per phase or per model? 36"/24" range plus normal move should suffice in most situations on the new smaller boards so I'd rather keep always in cover, or go Leviathan for 6+++.
The right mix between Devourers and Deathspitters depends on the meta. Deathspitters are good against Elves and vehicles up to T7. Devourers are better against most other targets. The original list had two extra Flyrants each with a pair of Devourers.

It's a bit better than that. It's when chose to shoot or fight with, so if you pop the shoot 2x strategem, you can get two rerolls in that one phase.

That would make it good for Exocrines in this list, but only Infantry benefits from the shoot twice stratagem.

It's a nice fluffy list, and I'm sure it's a blast to play... but I don't think it offers enough variety to really be good at anything... 

Normally, lists should kind of have a few specialists, and a few generalists... and the specialists should be able to target select efficiently, and be varied so they can pick out different units. 

Here, you have so much repetition, and so little variety that it seems the list will have a lot of bad matchups.

Well I guess I'll find out how good it is on the table. It surely wasn't my intention to make a fluffy list, as mentioned the original build was my most competitive 8th ed list. I think secondary missions will make or break it, if I can find fitting secondary objectives I think I can make it work. I think it could be even better in 9th ed, now that objectives are set. It should thrive in missions that revolves around standing on centrally located positions to max out primary. These boys are relatively hard to remove, with T7, 8W, 2+ saves at -1 to hit. Broodlords should be able to find some decent protection between the fexes and could maybe pick the psychic secondaries.

In 8th ed we usually had a lot of Maelstrom points in our tournament games, Gunzilla didnt' like that very much -"Oh, I need to get down in that corner this turn, forget it".
One thing this list actually does better in 9th ed is cc, due to Big Guns Never Tire.

Had the first outing tonight, against Drukhari. Frontline Warfare from the BRB. For secondaries I picked Bring It Down, Grind Them Down and Engage On All Fronts. I won the roll to go first and tabled him by turn 4. I popped a lot of vehicles the first turns while Drukhari struggled to hurt my big boys. I didn't reserve an Exocrine, I forgot about the Jormungandr power and I'm not sure I would have bothered anyway in this matchup.
Deathspitters with Maggots were great, wounding his vehicles on 3's and the extra reach was really good, he couldn't kite me on the small boards. I gave two Fexes Devourers instead and send them up the center.

Notes: Dense terrain is great for Exocrines, it's common and easy to use. Dermic Symbiosis was key, one made two 5++ saves against Bright Lances and when bracketed I could ignore the damage. Broodlords were great, hugging Carnifexes and counter assualting.

Lack of Obsec not a problem? Hold your own points and just make sure to shoot the opponent from theirs to prevent shooting?

If you can hold 2 and prevent your opponent from holding more than 1 objective for at least 3 turns, you've maxed out on primary. In some matchups that will be pretty hard, in some pretty easy. Drukhari troops don't have much in terms of staying power. And I suspect many players will fall into the paradigm of 'omg can't have more than 5 models in a unit', which Gunzilla don't have any trouble removing.
If the meta shifts towards hordes, just swap in more Devourers.
