Grasping at straws, new Codex?

Apologies if this has been talked about elsewhere recently (point me towards the thread if), but i'm wondering if we may be in the line for an early updated codex. Here's some food for thought:



- During the early previews of ninth there was a whiteboard with new codexes listed but crossed out. From memory these were Squats*, Marines and Tyranids. Clearly this was meant as a spoof but... anyone remember the trailing of plastic sisters of battle in WH community videos (cardboard box with plastic sisters written on the side) for a while before they came out?



- The new rulebook apparently has some fluff regarding a Tyranid vs Eldar warzone. So clearly nids are part of the ongoing narrative.



- This is definitely a stretch, but the general half-heartedness of the approach to nids re-pointing for 9th could be indicative of something bigger in the pipeline. Reminds me a bit of the Deathwatch update in a recent White Dwarf, that was poor but it turns out that was because a new codex is on the way for them.



Nothing concrete here i know but maybe, just maybe.



So, am I just wishful thinking here?

There's that Eldar vs Nid warzone and there's a new invading hive fleet in the Sol sector that just arrived through the warp (...).

Nothing points to an early release. All those bits can foreshadow events one or two editions in the future.

The only early codexes we've heard about are Necrons, Deathwatch, and Space Marines again (I might be wrong on the last one).

Almost don't want us to be an early dex, they typically suck comparatively.

Seems likely though. If we are the baddie next edition as seems likely, then giving us a filler one early this edition makes sense.

The points in their codex just does not make one bit of sense. 9 points for a t3 warrior is very batshittery. The wytches are worse of and they are bad rules vice.

And we have had rumour model pictures of an petite hand wielding a dagger, and hair with hooks in them. Both are liliths MO, and she is currently only in finecast. (DE have a lot of finecast models.) She also has been following the Incari to every once suprice.

Of course SM or Necrons will probably get a release soon.

There’s precedent for an early codex.

Tyranids are one of the more popular races in 40k. Despite their low tier status many people love the models and have them as a second (or third) army. Because of this we tend to be one of the first few xenos codices released.

If GW follows past release schedules we’ll see an imperial codex followed by a non imperial codex. They will probably lead off with space marines and then necrons (because they are in the starter box). After that it will be either an old imperial codex or a struggling marine chapter. I feel like Dark Angles here, but th IG or the Adeptus Mechanica would not be out of the question. The fourth codex is a toss up between Chaos, Eldar, and Tyranids. I don’t like Chaos here as they were the focus of 8th edition, but with the amount of sub-factions they now have they kind of need an early release. If I had to place money I’d say Eldar goes here. Orks are a fairly late codex to the 8th edition party and the FAQ brought Tau into 9th well enough that they can wait for a new codex. Any codices farther than that is hard to speculate.

tldr: The Tyranid codex will probably land between codex number 4 to 8.

Yeah i am going to second the notion that the whiteboard thing was just GW having a laugh at the 'grampy' / 'whiny' tyranid players. Dont read too much into it.

9th isnt out yet, so lets keep the wishful thinking about 10th in check.

Eldar guardians are T3 and 10 points now.  Dire avengers are 13 points for T3.
