One glaring omission for me personally from the nids one for Jormungandr is what does their hive fleet trait make them count as when not charging or advancing?

Assuming light cover but it isn't confirmed like I thought it would be.

Can we choose then? Dense Cover anyone ;-)

I checked the codex. It gains the benefit of cover for shooting attacks as written. So that's light cover. I think jorm would be very competitive if they got dense as well.

Thing is when it was written, the benefit of cover vs shooting attacks was only ever +1 to saving throw.

You could argue that dense cover is a 'benefit of cover that gives -1 to hit'.

I'm pretty sure as you say it translates to light cover now but surely that is the type of thing that is a prime candidate for an FAQ?

Overall FAQ update seems pretty sparse to me.

The OOE FAQ is a little odd too:

"Page 88 – Old One Eye, Alpha Leader Add the following to the end of this ability: ‘In addition, while any other friendly <Hive Fleet> Carnifex units are within 3” of this model, enemy models cannot target this model with ranged attacks."

As written it sounds like you can't target him even if he is the closest model providing there's another fex nearby?

Dynamic Camo is +1 additional to saving throws

There is a section in the "Rare Rules" from the rulebook that says all old rules that "grant the benefit of cover" count as granting the benefit of Light Cover in 9th. But they still should have clarified it in the FAQ, since that rulebook is currently not out yet. Hell, in this same FAQ they clarified other cases that are dealt with by the Rare Rules section, namely how the lictor's cover improvement rule works. So clearly these things are FAQ-worthy. But they totally forgot about jormungandr. Half-butted FAQs

That's what it says. This should be a rule on a lot of models. An improved look out sir for when the character is near a similar unit because it would be harder to distinguish. That would be a cool rules design. Prime next to warriors, terminator captain next to terminators, Destroyer Lord next to destroyers, etc... That would make it feel more like the character is "joining" that unit.

Why? Taking that supreme command detachment would only give you 1 extra HQ slot and it would force you to make The Swarmlord as your warlord.

As he should be. His joke trait will be traded for an adaptation anyway, and we are no longer afraid of giving away a warlord kill. I haven’t used a warlord trait since December.

That one extra saved slot in the battalion would give us a lot more breathing room for getting the needed creatures in the list while still forcing us to make choices. Two slots won’t be enough.

2 slots? Battalions still allow for 3 HQs. And a patrol still allows 2 HQs for only 2 CP. I don't see us needing more than that.

Warlord trait from jormungandr says that in 3 inches from warlord gains 'ignore cover'.
It's all cover or just light cover? (if all i think to move my shooting part from kronos to jorm)
same question for hive guards.

Good point - is there any mention of a generic 'ignores cover' in the rare rules section if the rule book?

Assume Imperial Fist and Iron Warriors bonuses would be the same in 9th too whatever the ruling.

Also, was it wishful thinking that I expected that they might have incentivised bigger unit sizes / offset the blast rule weakness by dropping the number of models required to gain the Termagant / Hormagaunt / Gargoyle bonus from 20 down to 15 in the FAQ?

Here's a link to a Youtube video where they go through the book. Timestamped to the last pages where it's possible to read almost all Rare Rules. I like how GW did it.

Units benefiting from cover, units ignoring cover, shooting and fighting twice, fighting first, etc.

The points and FAQs were the usual GW minimum effort, but the book seems to be a solid step forward.
