Trouble with the late game

How do you guys sustain your tyranids into the late game. I have played 3 matches recently where i have had seemingly clear victories only for me to lose last turn due to an inability to keep most of my army alive to keep objectives

deep striking ripper swarms are how I claim objectives. They are cheap and easy. Just clear out or drive off the enemies with your main fighting force and follow them up with a ripper swarm on the objective, ideally hiding behind terrain that is tall enough to block LOS.

If you are saying your entire main fighting force is gone before they can clear out or drive off enemies from objectives, it might help to describe what exactly is happening and what your list looks like.

I do use ripper swarms to hold objectives, for instance i played a game against death guard recently 2000 points. I got a couple fexes and 40 stealers + swarmlord broodlord which is kraken
Then a kronos spearhead detachment of exo hive guard and a tyrant.

In the game i started out great killing a bloatdrone and some pox walkers to his nothing first turn. I also got 3\5 obj to his 1 and second turn i had 4\5 obj and held that for another turn. In that time he i had killed another set of walkers but my swarmlord didnt get great rolls and didn't kill his demon prince.
Problem was this match he designs to have last turn obj = +2 instead of +1 which just seems unfair to nids compared to dg

So it sounds like a close game then. You were at 11 to 3 after the third turn, but he turned it around afterward. One thing to consider is that since all deep strikes have to be in before turn 4, that should open up tactical considerations with forces that you might otherwise keep in the backfield.

Making sure to keep your hive guard out of LOS and out of melee is important as they can bad touch enemies in a sizable radius without much risk of retaliation.

One thing to note is that Tyranids current army designs are generally like this - good impact early which needs to sustain an end game where we run out of steam. We arent an army with lots of stamina.

The only way you can really stretch our army longevity is through smart play and denying damage - if we cannot deny damage then yea we're going to be in for a rough ride. Denying damage can be done primarily through staying out of LOS of shooting, or by wrapping non-threatening units in combat so that we cant be shot off, or be staying out of engagement range of melee units. Esp the Genestealer Sling, it's a razor's edge type of army.

The other approach is to prevent scoring until it's too late to catch up (which can double up with denying damage). Certain missions like the one you mentioned it's pretty difficult though.
