Is anyone else worried about that Admech flyer ability that blocks auras in its vicinity?

Synapse is an aura... I wonder if GW even considered that fact when they designed that...

I am. Not about Synapse, but about them just jumping next to my lone fearless source (patriarch) and just poking everything to die to morale. For 1 CP. It might be OK if it doesn't have hover, but...yeah. 1 CP for immediate shut down on a high mobility Fly chassis, that then stays as a no go zone? I can't say that the admech stuff looks remotely balanced.

Need to honeycomb the whole area with cultists so there is no room for the base. Otherwise, tough luck.

This has the capability of completely wiping out our gribblies. Just fly over, pop this 1 CP ability next to the synapse source, shoot gants dead and let the rest flee due to morale. This seems like something they designed intended to be a nuisance for Space Marines but instead they got a hard counter for Tyranids.

No, this particular strategem is *NOT* balanced in the slightest. The model is priced appropriately, being very expensive for a single model box. It should get an FAQ/Errata sometime to curb, but until then, yea it's going to be a problem for every single army in the game (but Nids hit one of the hardest out of the door due to when our aura interacts with our models; in their turn, not ours.)

Agreed. It feels like they made it with marines in mind. The way I see them discussing it "shutting down an aura? That's a slight nuisance, call it 1 CP"

As it stands though, I've been using multiple sources of synapse. If they shutdown one, I'll be able to save the unit with another.

Yeah: for most armies and buffs, it's only 6" range and you can move out of it. Still strong for 1 CP, but not crazy. But immediately shutting down defensive options...Synapse, probably shuts down saviour protocols (not sure if it'd need to be in range of drone, or the model being shot though), mal, cryptek...that's basically minimum equivalent to +1 to hit/-1 or 2 to saves, for your entire army, shooting at a large portion of your opponent's army. For 1 CP.

A bigger comprehensive list of things I can think of getting hit defensively:


1. Tyranids Malanthrope/Maleceptor (counter the synapse/penalty aura and strategem buff, thereby invalidating an entire list concept without good positioning preventive setups)
2. Harlequin's Shadowseer (the - to wound aura for one, then the new WLT thing where they increase the range of weapons shooting at it)
3. Orks Painboy and KFF (removing one of their biggest defensive durability combos, but leaving Gretchin Shields intact)
4. Tau's FTGG and Savior Protocols (removing their sole defensive play, but its fine because AdMech doesnt melee anyway until the soup comes in)
5. Salamander Intercessor Invuls and Stone (good riddance anyway)
6. Any Armies that rely on Look-Out-Sirs/bodyguards for specific key characters
7. ZOMBIE BANNER SM BUILDS, GOOD RIDDANCE


Not a small list, but not a big one either. As pretty evident, only Tyranids are hit so hard that an entire list is invalidated stepping out of the gate.

I mean yes it sucks for us. We are also one of the armies (along with Orks on your list) which can just bodyblock though. Plane bases are big, just don't leave gaps on the angles it can fly.

Its something to be aware of, I don't see it really affecting us. Tau losing saviour protocols is a much bigger deal and anything to push tau out of the meta helps tyranids.

Just keep in mind, in 9th ed, they have already stated that flyer bases will interact differently with ground forces so body blocking an aircraft may be a thing of the past in the not too distant future.

Ahhh but would that mean it's possible for them to accidentally shut down instinctive behavior too as a plus side? Haha

I don't know if it turns off the instinctive behavior. The Synapse ability has no effect (= no immunity to morale), but the creature remains a Synapse creature. And that's all the Instinctive Behaviour needs to work.
