Here is some takeaways I had from my game.
1. People theorize this would be a MSU edition, I am still unsure of this, however if you choose Raise The Banners, it is better for a mission with 6 objectives, and if you have a lot of Troops to do so, I did not necessarily.
2. This is a mobile edition for sure. We played on the adjusted table size to see how it felt, so 48x60 inches makes you feel like you are moving 20% more statistically based on the length of the table, getting to those objectives is CRUCIAL. Gargoyles may actually be invaluable for dropping onto objectives as late as turn 4 or 5 to gain those additional VP's, and since they have wings I believe they can deep strike? (I am guessing right now will have to look.) The new outflank rules allow you to bring things in all the way up to turn 5. YOU WANT some reserve units to have the tactical option, and to keep your opponent guessing.
3. Hey guess what, now with the change to infantry moving with heavy weapons, Hive guard can shoot after moving, with only a -1 penalty, and since that caps at -1, TRY and aim for target that already have -1 modifiers already, and deny them the stack-able -1's thanks to 9th capping this. That squad of 6 may be 300 points now, but they can still move their 5 inches and fire 12 battle cannon shots on 4's. Not bad if you need to retreat to keep them out of harms way.
4. I should have deep-struck my rippers, I don't know what I was thinking having them on the board that early on, oh well, it distracted the dreadnoughts for a turn or two, so not all was lost.
5. Seriously if you have 3 Hive Tyrants, bring them. I originally reserved this for "competitive lists"however they are all rounders and have great tool-kits and you can potentially move 44 inches a turn if you roll 6 on the advance and use metabolic overdrive. Mobility Mobility Mobility.
6. Play the angles of the Terrain, my monsters and Hive tyrants actually lasted a LOT longer than usual with the obscuring terrain protecting them from lascannon shots from across the board multiple times. Looking at my positioning of my Hive Tyrants, more often than not I was behind or directly across from a squad that would (IN 8th EDITION) be like "Oh i see your wing, rolling to hit with all my lascannons." Not anymore Seymour. Obscuring terrain is awesome.
