What cult creeds do you use for what units?

Just dipping my toes into som GSC allies for my nids.

In the past I have run bladed clog for the heavy weapons, and the four armed emperor for easier charges from deep strike.

But now I really have my eyes satt on cutom made 'Workers Arissen' + 'Seasoned Enforces'. Means a small group of acolytes with mining lasers can be good. 2 ranged 24 lascannon shots on BS4+ with re-roll to hit is good at 74 points. Add inn 2 webbers for 76 points total and I have some flamers to shoot 14" away, and flame things that try to charge me. Sounds like good allies in my mind. Run 3 or 4 groups of this could help out on my anti tank. And at very low opertunaty cost at around 300 points.

Make sure to add in a jackal alphus to get a +1 to hit against a target. I was looking at using the above combo in a pure cult list. You can also use overcharged weaponry for a +1 to wound on mining lasers on one unit in case something really needs to die.

I also like that the sanctus can walk and shoot with the heavy weapon.

The alpha is a good idea! Bs3 with rerolls on S9 is so hot right now!

What is overcharged? Is it a stratagem from greater good? I am not rich enough to buy the book.

It is. I split it with a friend.

Cog is still better for the added Psychic Power, 6++, Warlord Trait AND (if going for a combined GSC detachment) melee Stratagem.
All custom creeds are traps and badly done, avoid them at all costs

I am not sure. After playing a lot of levathan I think rerolls on some heavy weapons are better then 6++. The bladed cog artefact is good. But 4++ is not that good. Most of the characters are a bit flimsy and die easaly anyway. Patriarch already has 5+. An abomerant might enjoy the 3++.

Besides there are so many good artefacts. Gsc has so many options. And tyranids do as well after blood of baal.

Kurt is like 85% correct - the neophyte combo above works for a gsc support detachment coming in for suicide scoring drops, while giving very little away. For a main gsc army, or a big segment of the army, BC are far better than anything the custom traits give individually.

There is a very interesting combo for Abbys in the Metamorph reroll one, which remains to be seen if it can be a practical competitive choice. Definitely works for casual though.

Otherwise GSC sets are pretty fixed:

FAE - Acolyte spam.
BC - Neophyte spam with some Acolytes.
TH - Abberrants, with some Acolytes.
HC - Ridgerunners. Maybe some Neophytes.
PP - Acolytes with some Aberrants.

Yeah. Rr hits is about the same as BC WLT, but more flexible in application. At low level bodies, 6++ isn't a huge deal, and overthrow doesn't matter. Now, is a low level det of a couple of mining lasers worth it just for the oomph? Iffy: I think the critical mass of mining lasers probably corresponds to about the same point that critical mass of bodies means 6++ is better. But it seems close enough for preference to win out for single det.

The critical mass for Mining Lasers is 8, which is 4 units, which is below the critical mass of bodies. Not sure if this is maths tested, but this is personal experience - more was always better but 4 was what I needed to get the job done consistently. 3 sometimes did ESP with rr wounds but not always. Usually I'd have 2 units left after that assuming they didn't focus all down, which doesn't do much anymore other than annoyance and suicide scoring.

From your guys experience would it be wise to use the rusted claw cult creed for a neophyte and jackal heavy gunline detachment, or is it better to stick with hivecult/ bladed cog?

I generally run bladed cog. Moving and shooting heavy weapons without penalty gives you good flexibility, while 6+ invul increases your survivability slightly. The warlord trait is a bonus as it will increase your damage output.

^ reading this will give you a very solid grasp of our potential options, but I'd summarize this way:

1. Go RC if you are planning to have 1 or 2 big units of Bikers and your meta is not saturated by -2ap 2D anti-infantry. Having Neophytes is OK but they pretty much do nothing but hold ground, they wont do much of a gunline. 

2. Go Bladed Cog if you're looking to abuse Mining Lasers and want to field something like 90/100 Neophytes. 

3. Whichever you go, if you're planning a gunline, supplement with a VERY healthy serving of Hive Cult Ridgerunners.

4. You can take that custom Cult Traits combo (Reroll Hits on Mining + No Penalty for Heavy) if you're looking for a min size suicide drop type battalion.

Vehicles in the Codex still benefit from Strategems, and Hive Cult have a trash tier Creed to begin with so there's no loss for the vehicles. You want Hive Cult for its Warlord Trait and Strategem, and the biggest benefactor is the Ridgerunner. Best run in 3 x 3 with Heavy Mining Lasers, buffed by a Primus with the WLT and an Alphus for +1 to hit, using the HC strategem for another +1 to hit, and the Ridgerunner strategems for a +1 to hit/wound for your stubbers and another +1 to wound for your Lasers.

Think about it. A unit that is 2+rr1 to hit and 2+rr1 to wound, with 24W with 6+++ to chew through, and costs only 177 points.

Yes the hive cult specialize strat and warlord trait is very good and works well together. But the +1wound for riderunner is only for a single model in a unit so just one riderunner. Dont know if that is worth the cp but heavy stubber stratagem for +1 to hit/wound, do that works on all heavy stubber in army? If it does it can be really good
