Ok, well the event has hit the midway mark and we are allowed to make changes to our lists. My last 2 games were vs an Imperium parking lot with 3 Basilisks, 1 Manticore, 1 Baneblade, 2 Tank Commanders, 2 Hydra's and a bunch of infantry. Honestly on paper I should not have won this fight. I took Enhanced Senses on my Hive Guard and Murderous Size on my Flyrant. In deployment I was going second and chose Search and Destroy deployment. I front lined my 3 exocrines outsides a ruin (but touching it) with my Malenthrope and Hive Guard behind the ruin wall all in range of the buff, including my Maleceptor. With prepared positions and -1 strength to incoming fire, my opponent took the bait and killed 1 Exocrine and failed to kill a second due to the buffs and good saves. My Hive Guard in reply powered up with Symbiostorm and blew the 2 Tank Commanders off the table. In turn 2 my opponent switched tactics and fired at the Maleceptor to remove the -1 to Strength and failed to kill it with his artillery which allowed my Hive Guard to wound the Baneblade and finish it off with my Flyrant who did 2 wounds on the charge at -6 for 10 Damage! There was no coming back for him from here.
My last game was against another Imperium, but this time it was a Chimera spam list with Tank Commanders. Again I was able to bully this list with Exocrines and Hive Guard. He could only manage 1 unit of rippers turn 1, and turn 2 I charged the centre with Warriors and Tyrant. He focused the warriors down who took the whole turn of shooting with -1 Damage, Catalyst, and Enhanced Senses making them super resilient. So when all was done I had 4 out of 5 wins same as the Ork player who beat me (and lost to Dark Angels), but I had more Battle Points and topped my League's pod group. Me and the Ork player will probably see each other again in a higher pod so here is where I am talking potential changes to the list.
The next 5 games will be played on either the new London Grand Tournament map layouts or the Pro-Tabletop format, both of which though have more terrain that are both taller, or smaller in capacity. This will make it harder to deploy my artillery that is both in a useful location, with Exocrines having some LOS, and all in range of the -1 to hit buff. So my options are:
Do I drop the Maleceptor? Do I change it to Kronos for the -1 to hit if I keep it?
Do I drop an Exocrine or Zoanthropes for some Biovores to help move block enemy from charging my lines?
Do I drop the Malenthrope for Venomthropes to increase my -1 aura and spread out the castle to cover more lanes of fire?
Do I change the warriors to Kronos also, so they too can benefit from Symbiostorm against another possible horde opponent, and/or take Bonesword/Lashwhip instead?
To be fair, there wasn't any time I think I needed the lashwhips, but I can see them being useful in some games. Most often though even though my warriors are a screen/guard, they were the aggressor and got either a charge or heroic intervention off with them first. But I would say their shooting was far more important in every game, than their combat ability. So I'm leaning towards an all Kronos double battalion at this stage of thought. I have 2 weeks or so to work this out.
