Mawloc - Murderous Size or Dermic Symbiosis?

Hello all, Nids newbie here and I am planning for my first 1k (non competitive) game.  I am likely to take a Mawloc and cant choose between Murderous Size or Dermic Symbiosis.  Which one would you pick?  Would that change if I took a Trygon instead?

What else are you playing? Murderous size should be great on Trygon to go from Str 7 to 8, but I haven't got it to work yet in 3 games. People don't seem to like seeing a 7 attack, str 8, -4ap, d6+1 damage thing on the board and shoot it with everything they have until it is dead.

A mawloc is not a very good target for an adaptation. What else is in the list?

Which is why I am thinking about using Dermic Sybiosis to keep the big bug alive. I would love to put it on a Haruspex or Toxicrene but don't have any of those models yet.

I think you’ll get most CP value from using unexpected incursion strat, I often end up doing 9 mortal wounds and it’s great for softening up warlords and other characters. The threat of the mawloc prevents enemies from castling too much. Combined with double move Genestealers that love multicharging and popping adrenaline surge it tends to put opponents in a difficult position deployment wise.

I’d put adaptations on something else. The mawloc either dies after popping up or there is not much of value left to kill. Murderous size if playing mass intercessors and you want to make it even more of a distraction carnifex than it already is. Dermic symbiosis if you have lots of T7 units and you want the enemy to waste a lascannon shot or two on the mawloc.

Only other big bugs are 2 Carnifex and the Swarmlord, its a small list as I am just getting started.

I guess this idea hasnt struck a chord with anyone! Looking at Mawloc again, its mele is pretty poor so perhaps not worth wasting Murderous size on. I still think Dermic symbiosis might get some value out of a Trygon, or at least divert your opponents focus.

It's T6, doesn't need to be shot at by lascannons to drop it. Tau HBC will do it just fine. Wouldn't waste dermic on him.

Murderous Size on Tryvon is OK as long as you fix the charging issue(be aware he will die, no doubt). Your min damage is 3 so you're definitely outperforming any Drop Flyrant. You can mitigate charge risk by giving him an Arachnyte gland in Behemoth. Be aware this is a suicide character lol.

Adaptations don't HAVE to be on the biggest critters. You can buff a unit of Warriors or Stealers.

Quote wasted to have murderous size on mawloc too. Because it can't charged most times after popping up, so unlikely to get much mileage before it dies the next turn, Unless the opponent charges it to make sure it doesn't burrow again. Even then after shooting + fight phase, I doubt it'll survive long haha
