A Carnifex putting out 24 shots should have a Monstrous Acid Maw, or Enhanced Senses?

acid maw lets you at least do some work if you get bad touched, and lets you maybe knock the last wounds off a wounded squad or target of opportunity.

enhanced senses let you shoot like you're not a gimp piece of (please do not swear).

if you're getting bad touched, you're already (please do not swear) up. go for enhanced senses.

I go enhanced senses for this exact logic. There is an argument to be made for acid maw, but I prefer to specialize my bugs rather than make them multi taskers. May depend a lot on your meta and how your opponents play

I go for acid maws. This gives them some punch in melee which they will likely find themselves due to the shorter range of the devourers.

If you want more slaps just take a bone mace instead of acid maw and keep enhanced senses. May as well spend the points on something that'll actually do something in combat *devourers fired*

I always go bone mace and enhanced senses on my dakkafex. If I'm running jorm, I go with deathspitters instead of devourers, to give me more flexibility due to range. For other hive fleets, I'd go with devourers (as you have less of a penalty due to advancing).

In addition to another melee weapon, absolutely for only 2p. Problem with it being a sole source of AP output is its only 1 attack. Im not comfortable with 4 ap0 D1 attacks on a fex 18" away.

Acid maw isnt exactly drowning in attacks either. It's a trap.

My theory is, you’re building it with 4 devs because you want it to shoot stuff. You can improve its primary purpose to shoot better by using enhanced senses.

Yes the maw changes your S6 0 1 attacks to S6 -5 D3 which is awesome, but you’re trying to avoid combat as much as you can with these dudes. And his normal attacks aren’t a complete pile of (please do not swear) particularly if it’s just trying to kill something that’s trying to tie it up like GEQ.

But that’s not why you brought it. You’re bringing it to shoot at stuff, so make it do that job well. A whole bunch of extra hits when it counts is worth more to me than some better AP and damage in combat. Particularly when marines will just shoot it off the board anyway and not engage it in combat.

If you think of the averages that one tail attack is more likely to hit and wound than four acid maws; 2pts vs. 10pts. Also I just dont believe theres an arguement for taking a melee weapon on a fully kitted shooting platform if you have to trade something of equal value that further improves said shooting platform. The tail is the obvious choice?

Edit: there's always thresher scythe for D3 extra slaps

Do you have lots and lots of gaunts to prevent bad touch? Go enhanced senses.

The Fexes are the outer layer? Go Maw.

Your Fexes have HVC? ALWAYS GO SENSES.

You take the Carnifex to shoot, so let him hit on 3s. If he gets into combat, you've either made a mistake or your opponent has found his way through your defenses. He can swing back with 4 attacks, maybe finish something or not. If you're interested in hurting without affecting your shooting output, take the Bone Mace for 2 points. His purpose is to shoot, so don't split your focus imo.

Enhanced senses, but make sure you have enough smites to get rid of a small bad touching unit during the psy phase.

IMHO enhanced senses is absolutely mandatory because you can make you devs dmg2 with the strat. Without enhanced senses, 2 CP is too heavy an investment.

Also they hit in CC on 4s (unless OOE), so with 2 attacks landing on average, chances you will remain bad touched regardless.

I mean I often don't do much damage even with enhanced senses, can't imagine how little damage i would do without.

Also, I think they are currently quite bad in today's meta. Sure when facing orks you are a happy nid, but the range is just too short I feel. For 4*devs I like walkrant with extra 8" range.
