Nids were inspired by alien around 4th edition.  Before that they had their own goofy look.  They were just another alien race, not really the horde of bugs thing.  God those alien looking models were a pain in the ass to put together, being all metal.  And Alien was not inspired by Starship Troopers.  It was just meant to be a horror story called Star Beast based off of Gigers work.  The theory was to make the male audiences uncomfortable, which it did, by way of raping your face.  People actually left the theater throwing up.

I'm sorry you're absolutely right. I got it backwards. I was thinking of the Starship Troopers inspiration for colonial marines and space marines/guard in general.

I think it' sthe other way around here.  I think the SK wants to use the nids to wipe out the galaxy so the crons can reign uncontested.  In essence, the Nids are the rings.

I still prefer the theory that they were the old ones last project, over an angsty exiled Necrons "revenge" similar to Ogors in AoS.

The Prometheus story is even better. Created as bioweapons to genocide, that adapted and overthrew their Oppresors..

There are enough tantrum throwing baddies lately, we don't need to personalize Nids due to an angry teenager (see Kylo etc.)

Well the funny thing about this is, and also throws a wrench in the whole 'Necrons are using Nids' theory, is that Necrons can make the Tyranids completely avoid them. There is lore about Necrons using some sort of technology that pretty much emits a psychic null zone. Nids actively avoid these spots. As in purposefully travel around the planet and/or system. Idk, its been awhile since I read the info.

The Silent King creating the Necrons theory comes from an Eldar talking to an Inquisitor and as we know, they never lie nor manipulate to their own ends and are completely unbias on the topic of the Necrons.

Also in the very same article, it states the Silent King discovered the Tyranids and did an about turn to come back to 'the' galaxy and stop them. That doesn't suggest he created them at all.

A couple things guys, just to straighten it up some.

Old Ones were never known to leave the galaxy. Nids come from outside it, supposedly from another galaxy entirely after eating it. Old Ones couldn't have created them, but that theory still used the same idea "galactic reset button" which never would have worked given that necrons are not living biomass. Which brings me to the second part:

It's not a machine that makes a psychic null, it's that necron worlds tend to already be barren, lifeless worlds and so Nids avoid it because it would be a waste of biomass to go down and investigate when all their reports show there is no life.

It wasn't the article that states that SK found the nids and turned around and fled. That originally came from the 5th edition necron codex.

but again, if this is a retcon, everything gets thrown out the window.

IF they do retcon, I kinda hope for the Prometheus storyline.  I actually liked the movies, being a huge lifelong Alien fan.

I think it's more that the eldar is trying to manipulate the Imperium to hate the Necrons even more and to start a war to destroy all necrons(wouldn't be the first time in the history of the imperium and won't be the last time that the eldar used them for their own purpose by telling a little lie or twisting some truths in other ways)

I think you're getting two versions mixed.  The Enslaver plague originally caused the Necrons to go into slumber because they were taking over everything, therefore leaving little for the Necrons to enslave.  This was their original fluff. 

After that came the retcon in which they don't care about enslaving the lesser races, so the Enslavers wouldn't even be a bother.  I dont believe the Necrons created them either.

Then you misunderstand what I'm saying. This is coming from an Eldar 65 million years after the fact, and only have their history which survived the Fall to work from. The Enslavers could have been seen as equally voracious plague to those of a psychically sensitive nature. It is because of the unrestricted use of psykic abilities which lead to the Enslaver plague being released, and it was because of the Necrons that they were "pushed" to such extremes. After 65M of decay, somethings can easily be lost in translation, and it gets worse when your empire shatters itself.

Of course, it could just be propaganda as well since the Eldar have no clue as to what the Silent King was doing at all. I still prefer the idea that a missed Old One (or a small group of them) made it to another galaxy, made the Tyranids, which then ate them, ate their galaxy, and then went back to the source of their creators. It totally fits in to what a mad Old One would do, and they've already demonstrated their capacity for creating such a self-destructive specie.

From what I've seen, which is only the picture floating around, it gives no hint that it's an eldar telling anyone anything. But Ive also only seen that one picture. GW doesn't normally throw out little hints like that for no reason, and certainly not as "propaganda" from one race to another. To me, it looks like an excerpt just talking about history.

In the place I saw it, they mentioned it being told by an Eldar Shadowseer. That may not be true, and GW has often given little snippets like this from the character pov, which may or may not be accurate. Heck, 3rd and half of 4th Ed codices were all written from the perspective of Imperium researchers.

But, yeah, it would be a major, and quite lousy, retcon to have Tyranids be a Silent King project.

Well, the thing I dont get about that argument is that the Eldar don't need to convince humanity to fight necrons. Space Marines do it already. Ive read and re-read the snippet page trying to see it from other angles. Like if they are referencing the Hive Mind itself, assuming it was a physical being instead of a gestalt consciousness. But it still doesn't quite fit. It also doesn't sound like it's coming from an Eldar. I only have the back half of the discussion:

"driving it from his own kingdom, he sought to excise life from the wider world. In secret, he moved beyond the horizons of the world for an age, and there he bred horrors of infinite hunger. Finally pleased with their form, he showed them the shining light of the world and unleashed them upon it, where they moved from kingdom to kingdom, devouring everything. Bereft of life, his own kingdom is safe, and he laughs while all others weep in grief."

My questions:
- Driving what from his own kingdom?
- After the retcon of the crons, they didnt seem to want to just wipe out life from the galaxy. They wanted to rule it.
- In secret, he moved beyond the horizons of the world. Well the SK leaving was not in secret, though he put everyone to sleep before leaving. So maybe it is. But beyond the horizons could mean northern/southern poles of the galaxy. We know the outsiders's home planetoid is south of the center, where Leviathan came from.  "Beyond the horizons" could be literal and in this case would definitely mean the 360 degree rim of the galaxy which means it leaves the Outsider out.  The nids did come outside of the eastern rim to start.
- Horrors of infinite hunger. Definitely nids
- Shining Light of the world. Not sure. I dont think it's the Necron construct that was destroyed nor the Astronomicon
- Bereft of Life. Definitely sounds like Necron, but at this point it seems he's embracing it instead of trying to reverse it. Which is weird.
