Went to a 50 man ITC tournament in Sweden this weekend. All the best players in the country were there and there were brutal lists and good players. I brought Kronos/Cult. 2 exo, 6Hive Guard, maleceptor, dakkaflyrant, a mawloc. One acolyte squad, kelermorph.
2 battalions and a spearhead.
The plan was to kill all the expected marines with exocrines and hiveguards and send the 7 saws in to knights and such. The Kellermorph, flyrant and Mawloc could do behind enemy lines operations.
With the maleceptor i hoped to get exocrines to stay alive a while.
I am not a top player and test of the list indicated that I might miss the malathrope that I ordered but that seems to be delayed in christmas mail... I hoped for good games and 3 wins.
First game I faced Tau. 3 riptides and loads of drones.
36” on all of our shooting and hammer and anvil. He deployd aggressive and screened with drones and kroots. He had me start and I only managed to shoot drones but failed to kill so from there he was one up already since he killed something.
I realized I had to do something since the drones would prevent my acolytes to conect to anything. I dropped the flyrant and mawloc in his back field and the kelermorph to kill markerlight guys. I got some kills this way and when he screened up again and then shot my flyrant I shot with stratagem to get another hole to drop in. Acolytes killed a crisis commander but failed to wrap and exo’s and HG had only scratched the riptides so rapid downhill from there.
Big loss. 17-34
Bad matchup, bad play from me. I should have been more aggressive with HG and exocrines.
Game 2 was Necrons. 3 arcs, tesla immortals, wraiths and destroyers. I killed the immortals with HG and flyrant right away and flyrant then tanked 3 arcs shooting before exocrines killed one/turn.
Great matchup, good play from me. 35-12.
Exocrine really loved shooting arcs.
Game 3 a chaos list with alpha legion despoiler, obliteraters, knight and heldrakes. Alpha legion can mess up deepstrike and that had me confused. He played well and kept his discolord at -3 to hit and hidden. I wasted CP on doubleshooting and shooting when killed again with the flyrant was killed so I could not use broodsurge strat to kill the knight with the acolytes when they got in. And the obliterators was alive and the discolord was alive so from there things got bad. Good game and great opponent who explained all new things to me.
Day two had me facing drukhari venomspam in a tight game. A failed smite to free my hiveguards and some bad savingthrows on the exocrines tipped it over to his side. Again not having CP to recover acolytes when they surrounded and killed a venom and wrapped the crew and then killed it in his turn was a big problem. Flyrant and mawloc failed to kill a venom and crew wich had me tied up in a corner for 2 turns.
I could have played this game better but he had special anti-monsterweapons and everything flying so bad matchup for me.
Maleceptor had the exo’s alive first turn though. Really missed the malanthrope in this game.
Last game was a mirror match in Kronos and cult. He had 6 zooanthropes, HG and OOE and bladed cog lasers. He choosed 2 broodbrothers as engineers and I got to start. Symbiostormed hive guards killed 8 in one and flyrant 9 in the other. One exocrine killed 4 of his hiveguards. He smited flyrant to death but then I shot his remaing engineers dead and left him with no objectives turn one so a big advantage for me. Catastrophic psykic phases for him and solid game from me had me winning easy from there on. My HG and exocrines could dominate when I had killed his HG and led OOE astray in to an acolytetrap. Nice opponent and nice to play a list you understand and I had the game under control all the time with that start.
2-3 was expected and I had a good time. The concept of shooty monsters and cult acolytes is not working. I run out of CP. I did not get to face marines (they were at the other end of the scoringtable...) so I don’t know how it would work there but I am sceptical. I think I’d have lost.
The tournament was won by ravenguards dev. Cents and drop pod’s.
Kalle A was in top position (4-1) with his stealer/aco horde and Tyranid list was 3-2 with stealers and exocrines so there are things we can do.
I will deside if it is horde or monsters from now on. Maleceptor might be more worth saving T3-5 infantry from bolters than protecting monsters.
I think dropping in exo’s/HG from T-cyte might be tempting. Mayby combine jorm-spell and Kronos spell in some way might give us a nice beta strike...
But next time I’ll test more in advance.
