I guess you have seen this on dakka but just in case I post it here. its in the nids thread in tactics.
The guy who created it seems to have some success at a decent level, and is explaining how and why it works.
Worth the try I think !

eh... big fish, small pond. This sort of stuff CAN win local events and such and more power to him, but it isn't a big ticket winner. Scythed is just too swingy in damage and is LITERALLY the only big melee threat in this list. Too many points of failure I think. The Scythed is basically a weaker knight. Any army worth its salt that can't kill one or two knights a turn isn't worth worrying about

a knight with maybe -1 to hit (-2 vs horrified), dermic symbiosis for the wound bracket and a 5+ fnp.. sure it depends on who plays 1st for the psychic buffs but regardless the 1600pts left of your army should be fine turn 2. anyway as he says in the current meta there are not a lot of other viable options vs heavy shooting lists, unless you go for 300+ gaunts, but it's more fun to let lose the big monsters

just for reference it's 30 lascan shots to kill a knight rotating ion shield, and 42 to kill the dule with catalyst and malanthrope aura (28 without catalyst)

just for reference it's 30 lascan shots to kill a knight rotating ion shield, and 42 to kill the dule with catalyst and malanthrope aura (28 without catalyst) so, go first to be competitive? I'm just saying that the true mark of a "competitive" list is consistency... and that means regardless of whether you go first or second to get FNP off, to get in range for horror on one key unit dealing all the damage, to get off catalyst without failure if you can make that first turn charge on a juicy target, or whether the hierodule whiffs on his/her/its damage dice (lack of anti-horde melee aside, a huge point of failure for this model), doesn't get screened out, etc etc. Give it a whirl and maybe you can find the secret sauce to make it work, but having played the dule post bob, I just don't see it being competitive outside of small events or one off games (where, granted, its swingy nature can make for epic wins depending on opponent)

obviously never a good plan to pray to play first ! I juste saw your list on the other topic, interesting as well. As said before we (probably) won't win GTs with nids, but I just like playing with tyranids so I'll try these lists to see what we can do ! Now that stealers are not an option at least with this AND a bit of chance we can surprise some filthy IH netlists ! copy of your list below if anyone wants to compare both : Build a Bear Hive fleet with +1 to hit on charge and 4+++ to OW Malanthrope Broodlord 2xNuerothrope 18 Termagaunts 18 Termagaunts 3 rippers 3 ripper 3 ripper 3 ripper Toxicrene Fex 2xscytals Fex 2xscytals Fex 2xscytals 6 Hive Guard 3 Biovore 3 Biovore Scythed Hierodule (5++ adaptation) Read more: thetyranidhive.proboards.com/thread/57632/nidzilla-doa?page=4#ixzz69U6J2Ng0

maybe what was lacking in your list was anti screen/chaff?
on 2 turns of shooting he gets 96 dev shorts 42 on avg acid auto hit if static t2, 24 stinger salvo,
plus the exo etc..
granted some of this will die, but still?

Another variation, that went top 4 at a GT apparently, pre BoB/CA.. ++ Battalion Detachment +5CP (Tyranids) [88 PL, 8CP, 1,590pts] ++ Hive Fleet: Kraken + HQ [29 PL, 566pts] + Hive Tyrant [9 PL, 176pts]: Heavy Venom Cannon [18pts], Monstrous Scything Talons [15pts], Warlord Malanthropes [5 PL, 140pts] . It went well, win with first turn, and 2 close losses with second turn. I did some mistakes learning to handle this and I think I can improve a lot. The idea is to own the midfield, forcing an end of court deploiement by fear of the dule, and running T1 as fast as you can if not in shooting range without advancing (I thought AG on everyone was a mistake and removed them on my first to game, but I quickly put them back after, this little aid can really be factor

The list of Keith Martinez, i would love to try. Last torunaments placings i know of: 4, 2, 1, 4. All tournaments int he Fresno area, 1 GT.
Had only time for 1 test of the Hierodule in December and played the dumbest match of my year and still nearly won. i´m not saying the Hierodule is our answer BUT the only 2 succesful tyranids lists i have seen in the last months BOTH are using the Hierodule.

Full disclosure, that Fresno GT is an "invitational" only that does not allow people from outside the Fresno area (pretty much a 100 mile radius) so it is limited meta.... and while there are a number of good players here, the overall field can be pretty soft. I haven't played against him or this list, but I just don't see this being the answer. Again, give it a whirl, but I wouldn't go buy models to put it together. Needs more hive guard too

The scythed is a red herring. It's basically a big bullseye that you want them to shoot at T1, and let SL and his band of merry Guards dominate the center, backed by two potent shooters in Exos (before HG 2xshoot, Exos are the more pts efficient shooter).
That's what I think, anyway. My WK list plays a similar concept, but I use potent psychic and decent tank chassises rather than body control on the centre field.
