Bugs on the Windshield

Nothing earth shattering but thought I'd share something that has opened up to be more viable post CA19.

A unit of 30 gargoyles now being only 150pts has let me put them in lists to toy with. In two games against iron hands air force I've been able to move block three Stormhawks (1 in one game, 2 side by side in another) and cause them to crash by dropping in that huge footprint out of deepstrike. In both games it was a goal and I held the drop until the window was open.

With anti air being an issue for us and the prevalence of IH airforce, I thought I'd throw it out there. This is unlikely to happen against vector dancing eldar unless they play poorly, but it can be pretty doable to catch less mobile flyers unawares.

If not playing against flyers these are still pretty cheap and mobile to even put on the front line and slingshot forward turn 1 to move block a possessed bomb or grotesques.

bigpig why does the SM player not just hover? Are those planes unable to drop low?

Yeah. Only good for stormhawks and probably xiphons, but the hawks are quite popular for mobile firepower and as a counter to eldar flyer spam.

This is actually the title for my experiment lists. Either you have enough bugs that splat the windshield and they crash, or they hit the windshield and the opponent activates their windshield wiper and continue on like nothing happened.

I really feel like our gaunt strains should have without number akin to green tide. Limit 1 per unit or dataslate if too strong. Or a suicide ability for Gargs where they reduce movement by X for each sacrficed up to X.

I really really want to run my 30 gargs now that they’ve dropped in price...I still just have trouble fitting them in bc they’re not troops. So I’m basically filling two of those slots in with hormagaunts and then there’s no room left for them. I get it that gargoyles fit the “fast attack” profile, but there should be some way to take them as troops.

Yeah, that is a hinderance. Seem to remember the ability to take them in the troops slot in the "swap your force org chart around via HQ" days, but we don't do that anymore. 5pts seems to be a good point for them based on what they can do now compared to the rest of the units available.... but, yes, troop priority keeps coming into play for me too

One thing gargs have going for them is they can't be tremor shelled...sure they can just be blown to bits with standard shooting, but then at least the opponent is shooting at them and not your other bugs. Seems like they would be good in Kraken to either be hurled straight at the enemy or used as described above to protect our other units from fliers by clogging up the board, etc.

what's a move block? can't the flyer just move over them? They seem to have a rather big range of movement.

A move block is precisely that - you stop the model from moving. 

Imperium Fliers dont move as much as Aeldari ones, and the ones that cant hover, and cant turn twice, can sometimes find themselves in really dicey turning points. If the General doesnt pilot their positioning right, they can basically accidentally crash them by not being able to meet the minimum move.  It's rare, but it's a satisfying moment if you can ever pull it off. Dont expect someone who is adept at and used to piloting plane lists to actually crash though.

IF you have a big swarm footprint it isn't as hard to pull of. The turns become limiting real fast, but you have to be able to flood a board
