Do you think these work with monstrous and massive scything talons? Hoping it’s gets faqd. Was hoping to make a scyth Heavy list with screamer killers, Trygons, scything tyrant with horms, raveners and scyth genestealers.

Might do, might don't. we'll have to wait and see. Honestly tho, our big scything talons are already ap-3 and that's plenty, they don't really need the additional -1. Little talons tho, oh dear. hormagaunts with ap-1 going ap-2 with the strat, with reroll 1's on hit and wound.... sexy af.

Even the raveners, if you keep them cheap, no guns, they go to 18ppm and they sport 5 attacks str 4 with ap-1 rerolling 1's. Put the red terror next to them, you got a freaky fast unit that can be surprisingly dangerous. These guys are basically 3 wound genestealers for +6 ppm if you think about it.

RAW at the moment, no: it's scything talons, and unlike marines we don't have 'scything talons are all weapons with scything talons' ala flamer/melta weapons.

Cheers guys. I’ve sent an email to 40kfaq but I think you’re right, it’s probably a no as it stands.

Granted ap-3 to ap-4 is worse than 0 to -1 (invuns etc.) but would have been nice to have the theme validated.

Like the idea with the red terror, that’s quite a good combo now.

The -3 ap horms are gonna be great with their built in luitentant and captain rerolls.

-2 ap 5 attack genestealers should be fun also

Speaking of genestealers... genestealers also have the option for free scything talons, and with ap -1 they are superior over the rending claws against 6+ armor or some cases where there is an invuln. Such as against hive tyrants who have 3+ 4++

Mawloc has Scything Talons. Sucks a bit less in combat with AP-1.

Hive Fleet Adaptation: Uses the phrase "Scything Talons"

Codex: Weapon is identified as "Scything talons". Notice the T is not capitalized. It's the same for every weapon that's two words. Flesh hooks, Acid maw, Rending claws, Scything talons.

Trygon: Massive scything talons


Weapons section in back of codex: Massive scything talons, Monstrous scything talons, Scything talons.

Nowhere in the dex does it refer to a Scything Talons.

Bio-Arefacts:  The Venomthrope Parasite.  Mentions stranglethorn cannon and heavy venom cannon.  No caps.  

So my interpretation of this is Scything Talons refers to the family of Scything talons.  If Bio-metallic Cysts were in the dex, I'd say not.  But the dex refers to "creatures with monstrous scything talons" and actually differentiates them.  but it was not the same author to my knowledge.

bunch of folk not remembering the arguments early in 8th over wording on stuff like this. the only reason bolter discipline works the way it does is because they stated that's how it works. i wouldn't hold my breath for this to work on anything other than bog standard scything talons, because that's what it says it does.

be nice if we got that same wording, but, what, you guys think we're space marines or something?

Anyone else remember: 2 chainswords = 2 bonus attacks. 2 scything talons = no extra attacks. 4 scything talons = 1 bonus attack. Sounds about right.

On the other hand, my first read was all scything talons so that be how I roll until/if we get an FAQ. I might be wrong, you never know how GW will rule.
