Dealing with SM

Do auspex scan strategem for SM, does it work with all units within 12" or only one unit?

Any one unit. So only one, but they can pick whichever one they want. You can kinda play around it by bluffing.

ie turn 2 I drop a lictor. Do they use it or not? No? Ok, then I will not drop my Trygon prime or the troops it brings along.

Also, if you have a Tyrannocyte, they can only auspex scan against the Cyte, not against the stuff that's inside it.

That might actually give a lictor some play. Then again, as soon as I take it I'll go five rounds and not face a single SM army.

It's like 30 pts and an elite slot. Even if it does nothing for 5 games, meh.

But it still gives up a kill point and likely a kill more in ITC. I try to not give up both in early rounds in ITC.

But it still gives up a kill point and likely a kill more in ITC. I try to not give up both in early rounds in ITC.

Then drop it turn 3 in the most barren corner of the table and pretend it's not there. Ideally place it right next to your dead model pile.

I would rather those odds, the game would be easier to win even after giving away a kp.

Minor clarification that it is only one infantry unit. So you can deep strike by vehicles and bikers no worries. 

A lot of minor stratagems like the D3 Mortal wounds from the heavy bolter is restricted to infantry only. Not that it often comes up often I only know it because I have a white scar biker list.

The eldar suspect scan is also infantery only ? I know it is unlimited in it’s range (which makes it one of the f..ing worse things ever) but I remember getting blasted by walkers over a year ago. Should I have checked the strat in the codex ?

What rule proves they can only shoot the cyte and not whats inside it? Didnt the unit inside it also come out as reserves?

Some rules – such as Early Warning Override in Codex: T’au
Empire, the Ever Vigilant Stratagem in Codex: Adeptus
Custodes, and the Auspex Scan Stratagem in Codex: Space
Marines – allow units to shoot at enemy units that have just
arrived on the battlefield as reinforcements, as if it were the
Shooting phase.
Q: If the unit arriving as reinforcements is a Character,
can the firing unit shoot at it even if it is not the closest
enemy unit?
A: No – unless the firing unit is using a weapon that
allows them to target a Character even if it is not the
closest enemy unit. This takes place ‘as if it were the
Shooting phase’, so all the normal restrictions of the
Shooting phase still apply.

I don't know why a SM player would ever auspex a lictor...

Yeah, don't do that. At best, you're probably going to get a rep. At worst, foul/equivalent for poor sportsmanship. Someone did this at our last tournament: I don't know if he got an official warning, but I heard about it from a guy who didn't even play him, and it was plausibly accidental. Just poor form to do it, let alone intentionally.

Doing that with a lictor is fluffy though. Expert in hiding and all that
