so we're supposed to play tomorrow. i give it 50-50, at best. if he does show, i'll play the same list as above.
if he doesn't show, i've got a 2k list and i'll try to scratch up a game:
kraken battalion 1997 points
swarmlord broodlord malanthrope
genestealers X20, ST/RC, X5 acid maw genestealers X20, ST/RC, X5 acid maw warriors X6, boneswords/adrenal glands, X4 deathspitters X2 venom cannons
X6 hive guard, shock cannons, adrenal glands
tfex, acid spray, stinger salvo, adrenal glands tfex, acid spray, stinger salvo, adrenal glands carnifex brood (X2 fexes), X2 pair of deathspitters, enhanced senses, spore cysts, adrenal glands
straight forward, it runs at you as it shoots and tries to eat your face. it's unsubtle and should be fairly simple to play. all the guns are assault so i can run and shoot.

Acid fexes are heavy, not assault

we actually played tonight! he showed up. we played our 1k lists; he brought phobos dark angels. we halted on T5, and called it a tie at 8 - 8. it really probably should have been 8-7 in my favor, there was a dispute on the wound count on my neurothrope but i let him have it. i was tired, it's equally as likely i just can't count to five. i let it slide, not worth arguing over. otherwise it was a good, fun game. if it would have gone on to T6 i'd have nearly certainly won by bringing his last unit of eliminators down.
we weren't looking to dig through the ITC missions, just wanted a refresher so did book mission/deployment and got big guns/and the one where you deploy 12" off the center diagonally in opposite corners.
lessons learned:
-ITC lower level of ruins LoS rule saves lives. -hive guard are expensive but it they can't root them out and they get to shoot all game, they will do some work. i had bad dice turns 1-2 for them, after that they started rolling hot. had a redemptor dread that took 3 full turns of shooting (and SMA twice) to bring down. -genestealers do some work, but dead melee don't do much DPS. -don't leave high value targets where they can be seen. i lost OOE turn 1, and that was painful. should have metabolic overdrive and ran him somewhere else. -good old deep strike rippers are solid gold if you're playing old style missions where you score objectives at the end. their use varies otherwise, they're still great objective campers and are easy to hide. -warriors look scary and people aren't always used to them. they're reasonably tanky with 3W each but they really suffer with that BS4. it's ass. -the new marines. it's a whole new game and i was on the receiving end of the lower part of the power curve. can't say that i enjoyed it. the bonus to attacks while charging is significant, it adds up quickly and even a 5 man squad is putting out a mess of attacks. beware. he stayed in the devastator doctrine because of the elminators and dread, it adds up. -eliminators are a swiss army knife of shoot you in the face goodness. hive guard put a serious dent in them but that d3 damage on impalers is annoying and swingy.
that's the long and the short of it. my long suffering opponent finally at least tied me. it was a pretty good time.

i changed the title, so i can ramble on about my gaming adventures as i gimp my way back into active gaming without having to make new threads every week.
got another game in today, with a new opponent. found another old gnarly guy that's been playing forever (he came in at the very end of the RT era, so...he's been playing a minute). we struck up a conversation and set up a game. 2k, did one of the open war missions. he brought grey knights, 2 GM nemesis dreads, draigo, an ancient with the exploding banner, some named captainish guy, a unit of terminators, 3? strike squads, and a lascannon/ML dread.
i brought the 2k list above, but re-arranged it to be battalion + spearhead for an extra CP.
the open war missions had a bunch of little quirks in them, there was a warp storm active so +1 to cast, +1 to deny, and you take an extra mortal wound if you perils, if memory serves. i had a lower total PL than him, so got to pick a hidden asset card (i don't know what they're called, first time (please do not swear) with these) that let me re-deploy up to 3 units, no more than 9" away from any enemy unit. he deploys most of his characters and one of the DK in deep strike. i re-deploy my broodlord and the two acid spray tfexes forward. most of everthing else is clustered around the malanthrope, most things are out of LoS to start. lot of ruins on the board.
i get T1, he fails to seize. i moved everything up, had the warriors on the 2nd floor above my deployment zone objective in the midfield, everything else pushes forward. i made some mistakes right off the bat: because i had re-deployed my tfexes, i shouldn't have moved them. they were already in spray range of the NDK, i should have just double tapped both units into him but i totally noobed it up and moved them to try to get a better 2nd turn position. it was bad and i feel bad.
but don't worry, i'm about to feel worse.
see, it had slipped my mind that during the edition change that storm bolters basically doubled in output. and that with the new bolter discipline, i was looking at taking double shots to the face most of the time.
i rolled poorly for most of my shooting with the random acid spray and shock cannon output. i took one of the strike squads down to 1 man and took 2 off another, and put 2 wounds on the NDK. yeah, not really stellar. as mentioned before i didn't double shoot the tfexes because i'm a dumbass, and the carnifexes were out of LoS (MC status + LoS blocking buildings are a double edged sword. it really limits mobility and firing opportunities). i was able to hive commander a unit of stealers into a good position. i wasn't able to successfully cast any power the entire game, except for a single smite and a single psychic scream with did 1 wound each.
stealers multicharge the 1 man unit and a 4 man unit. 2nd stealer unit is half an inch away from being able to safely charge through a wall and catch the terminators. broodlord dies to overwatch from the NDK. ooof. stealers wipe both units and over-run back towards the rest of my army to get them back in synapse and keep them from getting counter charged easily. so far, embarrassing to loose the BL but noobs gonna noob.
yeah then i lost both stealer units to a whole bunch of storm bolter shots and smites. one was completely wiped and the other was down to 3 guys which ended up being out of synapse and died to moral. took some wounds on SL, one of the tfexes ate some lascannon to the face from a dreadnaught with astral aim hiding in the back. a warrior takes a wound, a HG takes a wound. not a great round for me.
t2, i pull things back and start a gunning retreat to the center objective, trying to kill as much as possible but i'm pretty sure i'm boned because he just killed a third or so of my army and half of his is still in reserves. shooting is largely ineffectual. carnifexes move up to try to get an angle on the terminators and remaining strike squad. SL moves up and wipes a strike squad after taking some overwatch to the face. even with SMA i can't put enough wounds out to kill much.
his T2, he mauls SL to 3 wounds, and kills the wounded tfex who death spasms and puts 3 wounds on the other tfex and the malanthrope.
my t3, i roll 3 shots for the hive guard and evaporate the NDK. not even sure how many wounds i actually did, i put 7 mortals on him (S7 vs T7, so if it wounded it was an automatic mortal wound) which killed it outright. i don't think i did anything else.
his T3 he brings all his guys in. the banner guy and the named captain (or w/e it was) come in at the table edge 9" away from my firebase/remainder of my army. yeah that banner blows (please do not swear) up. i was clustered up so it did 3 mortal wounds to everything in 6", which was most of my army. draigo gated behind the cluster. the new NDK killed a carnifex. everything smited the SL, he died. shooting killed the other tfex.
T4 i shot some things and tried to take as many guys out as i could. nearly dropped the named captain but he made a bunch of saves, i think i got him down to 1? after that he used the banner again and this time got the big result, dropped 5 mortal wounds on a wider area (i think?) which killed a couple of HG, several warriors, and the malanthrope.
his turn he killed everything but one HG and 2 warriors. we called it from there.
things i did wrong: not doubleshooting the tfexes probably cost me the game, or at least having a shot at the game. its possible i could have taken that first NDK down T1 and the stealers would live and suddenly it's a different game.
the carnifexes were not deployed in a good position. pretty sure one died without firing a shot, and the other only fired twice.
i didn't know the enemy army's rules enough to have an idea of what they were capable of. i was facing roughly double the firepower i was expecting from them.
i did have fun and got to meet someone new, so it wasn't a total loss. hopefully i will absorb these lessons and be less of a bonehead in the future. i really miss the days when i knew my rules, i knew your rules, and had all this (please do not swear) committed to memory. still, it was a lot less stressful and i got to chat with a few new folks. everyone is comparing the game right now to the end of 7th, everyone out here expects not exactly a new edition, but 8th 2.0 with the psychic awakening updates.

Looks like the normal ones are. Can anyone check the datasheet for the GM NDK?

GMNDK is still T6, the difference is 4++ instead of 5++.
NDKs are also not vehicles, they're MC. So Shock Cannon does not do any mortal wounds to them.
As an asides, NDKs no longer FLY, so they can be locked down and only have like 5A on them with a super huge weapon - Stealers love hugging them, since its like 4 dead guys instead of a dead SL. You have to stop Gate though.
GK are still the premier Nids killer in this game. D3 damage on every melee weapon screws us. Stormbolters and their special weapons everywhere screws our infantry. Power Armor guys come in with like 2A each on falchions with 3A on the charge. They are actually nasty, just no one recognizes them.

The first few games back are always rough. I know I always make a few dumb mistakes each game after a hiatus.

Dude, welcome back to the mix again!
I'm somewhat in the same boat, after a lot of water damage in my basement this spring and absolutely shattering every bone in my ankle and being on crutches for 20 weeks, i'm getting back in to the mix as well. Good time to muck through all this Blood of Baal stuff with fresh eyes.
