Hive Fleet Harbinger - my WIP thread

Hey everyone – long time lurker here, haven’t really posted all that much but am trying to change that!

Thought starting one of these threads would be a good way for me to get motivated to bust out the brush and get cracking on painting up my bugs. Been playing with mostly unpainted tyranids since I came back to the game at the end of 7th after around a 20 year hiatus, but life got in the way a bit (had our first child), and so am now only getting back into the swing of 40k again.

My hive fleet is “Hive Fleet Harbinger” – I saw the scheme back in an older tyranid codex (4th maybe?) and thought it looked pretty sweet. I was a bit unsure about it at first, as its pretty bright and not scary/grimdark enough, but I ended up managing to find one other person on the internet who had painted theirs very similar (sadly, cant give them credit as I cant recall their name).

Basically, it’s a very bright blue (seraphon colours), with a black carapace w/ red accents.

Ive laid down a bit of a plan to get 1000 points painted up before year end to have a go at my local GW competition. The list won’t be anything special, im more interested in just playing rather than winning as games are very scarce for me generally (my mates play AoS, so that’s what im usually forced to play also).

So to give me options for both 1000 point games and kill team, im going to paint up
- Flyrant
- Tervigon
- Exocrine
- 3 Hive Guard
- 30 Termagants
- 10 Genestealers
And more for kill team
- 3 Warriors
- Lictor
- Tyranid Prime

That’s the current plan, so will basically keep updating this thread with stuff as I go! Have most of it built (or built in parts).

So first off the rank then is my Flyrant. Been making decent progress on him. Managed to magnetise the arms, so mostly just have the weapon options left to paint up for him, and do some accents on the bone areas. 

Also working on a squad of warriors. Planning on giving them all boneswords, 2 with deathspitters and one with a venom cannon.

Still need to work a fair bit on my feathering skills, or debate if I head down the route of having the series of lines.

Thanks guys - lots of work to go. And yep, def need to work on improving the red feathering. Could look a lot neater/better.

Apologies for the lack of posts on this thread - been super busy with work and got side tracked with another kill team project that I’m also yet to put much paint on.

So I made some progress on the Tervigon, hoping to finish this part aside from the carapace tonight, then the legs. Put them together then do all the carapace sections.

Still a ways to go.

Apologies again for the slow progress - its the silly season at work now! 

So I finished off for now the twin devourers on the Hive Tyrant, so im calling him good for now at least.



As for the Tervigon, slow progress, but only the main carapace (& leg carapace) part to go. Will tidy up with black, and then get to the red and little bone parts, then she should be done also! 

I think in the end, the blue is a bit too bright - so will def tone down the final highlight to get it more like the flyrant for other big monsters from here on.

One of the best schemes I've ever seen. Wonderful mix of contrasting colors, and I'm a sucker for schemes that distinguish the head from the rest of the model. Wow!

Wow thanks man. Very kind of you to say. I cant take complete credit for the theme though – as I mentioned, I saw someone with similar that I wish I could give credit to but cant recall who it was, and its pretty much just the hive fleet harbinger from 4th ed codex with a bit of green and other bits added here and there to make it ‘my own.’

Hoping to have her finished this week so I can move onto finishing the warrior squad.

I've coincidentally been flicking through old codices for inspiration for my own color scheme (still have not decided). I think I know which one you are talking about, and while I see the similarity, you really made this your own. It's very impressive.

Again, xmas and everything else has got in the way a lot with time, but im almost done on this one. Need to do a few bits of work on the vent things (add the green and red), and then shade and highlight the little spines on the carapace.
