Questions about charging

Derping out, cant remember, cant find anything. When you make your charge move, can you move through other friendly units. Can charging units with FLY move over friendly or enemy units?

FLY can move over units w/e.

you cannot otherwise move through models, friendly or otherwise, charging or otherwise unless a specific rule lets you.

yup.

If however all models make a clear passing over the models, bases can be placed and 1 inch away from enemy and all that.

Quick explaination why I added that which is in respons to threads where I sometimes read with amazedment how people react and behave:

 

Sometimes people tend to be a bit casual where otherwise a charge would have been failed and just make it happen by stealing some inches.

In a casual game I point out such behaviour and explain why it would not be a okey move in a tournament, and not really mind it. But in tournament practise or actual competitive scene I ask to move all back and explain why aswell.

As a rule of out club such small points hones skills better and makes for a good rule of conduct system. so we avoid players being labeled as cheaters and keep a nice atmosfeer and all.

Where does it say I can FLY while charging? Reddit seems pretty adamant that you cant. Probably due to arguments about phases and what not, "flying is in movement phase only" and such.

charge move is still a move. FLY does not mention movement phase.

An argument can be made that since the part that talks about fly is in the movement phase part of the rulebook, that the rules only apply to that phase. That argument would be incorrect, but it could be made.

TL:DR. As infonography mentioned, an argument can be made. It's a really stupid argument, that at worst breaks movement entirely (guess what? Moving is only defined in the movement phase section ) and at best ends up with everything being able to move through models anyway.

So the rule says you can't move through models, but since models in units can be placed 2" apart, surely a model with a base 50mm (2") or smaller can move between the gaps? It is not moving through a model, but the space in-between?

But seriously, friendly models sure. Enemy models, no because you cannot get that close without charging.

True, but you only can't go within 1" in the movement phase, so you could move through a gap in an enemy unit in the charge phase, if your opponent had left a big enough gap and you had enough charge movement to hit a unit behind. Could be a way to tag multiple units, but I doubt the opportunity would arise that often since you don't need to spread out to avoid templates anymore I guess.

But that enemy unit has to be in their own coherency. You can't squeeze a model between 2 models that have to be within 2 inches of each other while keeping your model more than 1 inch away from them.

As long as you nominate the unit you are passing through as a charge target, then you can move within 1" according to the charge phase rules, so it should work if the gap was there.
