I actually think what I like most about the purestrains from DWO is that they have firm glue points to the base. I had been leaning toward doing 32s for my stealers. There are actually some cool upgrade base kits from third parties(like this eccentricminiatures.com/adapterrings.html) though I think I would prefer to just have a more durable connection for the stealers in general which would require some more conversions.
On mixing base size: I have 30 painted stealers which were some of my first painting work in 40k and they need an update. I love the classic purestrain color scheme so my idea was to paint up them and then use my unpainted normal stealers and a few paint experiment stealers I have accumulated and try to show my broods at various stages of converting from my hive fleet to purestrain genestealers which fits since I have been using my painted patriarch as a count as in replacement of my old metal broodlords (which hive mind willing will become my 7-9th lictors with a favorable showing for them the new dex). In any case, the point is that I wanted to mix base sizes to show the progression to full purestrain, so aesthetically there is a reason for them to be different sizes.
For marines it is is more of a convenience thing. I will eventually put all of them on 32mm bases because I think it fits the model better and that is where the new infantry kits have been going. I definitely based my vanguard jump pack guys on 32mm and they look way better even if the newer assault marine kit still outsizes them a little bit.
