Let me guess... people will continue to say "ah, the powercreep is not that bad". I don't know how viable melee-centric CSM lists are, but that trait is ridiculously strong for being free. Also Catalyst for them, nice nice.

The trait is good, but honestly no, it's not that bad. There's no use to a trait that doesn't get a use when the unit is just shot off the board? This is identical to the slaanesh trait and they're not exactly carving a trail of destruction through the 40k scene.

This is actually really powerful when used on noise marines mixed with their standard ability. So 10 with sonic blasters will give you 30 S4 ignore cover shots at 24" Use the command point so they can shoot twice, then when they die they shoot a third time. So in 1 turn a single troop of noise marines can point out 90 shots, that's pretty dangerous. Mixed with always fighting first and a power to get a 5+ against wounds/mortal just the basic noise marines become a versatile unit in both combat and shooting. Maybe it's finally time to start up my Slaanesh Daemons/Marine army...

Very true, I guess I should have said if they keep their normal power. Honestly I don't see why they'd lose it. Just putting out there that noise marines will be the bane of horde armies if they stay the same and get these new abilities.

Because they got that ability to make up for not having the stratagem in the index.

I don't like the way this is looking. My opponent can double fire when he isn't locked in close combat, and when I do lock him up in close combat he always gets to strike before me. Those are two rules that are very abusable.

Power creep is back. Power escalation with each codex is back in. GW is addicted to it.

Both are better than most armies we see in the indexes by a significant margin. It's not just a matter of giving players more options, it's that the codexes seem to radically up the game. Whether or not we see continued escalation is still in doubt, but by October you will see a definitive list of haves and have nots between those with codexes and those without. I have no faith that GW can keep it in check, they never have so far. If CSM also gain the new obsec rule like SM did then every army will struggle until they can counter that.

I don't know how many people actually work at GW but it could be due to small staff of actual writers and those that work on game mechanics. I mean, it's no excuse but it would make sense that every new thing that comes out has to be better than what was already out to stay competitive, even if it isn't needed. I mean, just look at Marines. Marines are a sold army with dozens of play styles as long as you're not an idiot when it comes to tactics. Yet GW released more powerful versions of all their standard things. My only question is why? In a game where MEQ sets the stage and Marines get the best of everything why would they make marine marines? They have beefed up tacticals, devastators, assault marines, commander, chaplain, tank etc. Everything got better for an already elite army that didn't need it. Why is that?

Money. Pure and simple profits. They cannot make money by releasing fair and balanced units purely because it is a competitive game. Sure not everyone plays competitively but with the type of game it is making progressively bigger and more shiny things will make people want to buy it. The whole reason power creep is in the game is because it forces people to buy the new editions super star unit for the codex. The nerf and buff of units in codexes isn't to keep the game balanced, it's to force people to drop the good things they bought for last edition for good things for this edition. It's too far of a stretch to assume that they're trying to balance things when they over-correct so hard in the other direction every single time. I mean, GW's been doing this for years across all the codexes, can you really chalk it up to them being unsure of what they're doing if they follow the same pattern for the last 12 years?

TL;DR GW does power creep on purpose for more money. New meth marines look awesome, hope they finally get plastics.

The codexes are meant to be better than their index counterparts....that's the whole point of them. GW has said repeatedly that the indexes were just to get us going, and Reece over at FLG says that the "real" versions of the armies are coming in the codexes, and to keep our pants on. The goal is to have all of the codexes reasonably balanced with each other, not have the codexes be balanced with the indexes.
