And with a press of the enter key, GW has ended the psychic phase. For a mere 225 points any Imperium army can take 3 units of 5 models that completely stop psychic powers in a 24" bubble. Cabal star is dead. Daemons are toast. Don't plan on using those great psychic powers from GSC anytime soon.

Psychic was a bit unreliable. Now it's really gonna be hard to plan an army around it. It really changes the game. Probably for the better overall, but it's a major change.

Oh, and at 225 points they also take away 2 of your dice.

No, they released a formation for them. 1-3 units. Every unit past the 1st takes a dice away from your opponents pool. They just have to be on the table, they don't have to be within any range to take away the dice.

They're still T3 Models that have to walk. I'm confident that they're going to prove to be an effective tool in the right hands, but not an overwhelming counter to Psychic-heavy Armies, especially ones like GSC and Daemons that can be pretty flexible in where they're casting their powers from.

I'm not worried how they do in the hands of an ameture or bottom feeder, I'm worried about how top players do with them. I'm pretty confident that in the right hands they will change the meta significantly. The good news is, the meta has shifted significantly in the past month. I'm excited to see how things shake up in the next 3 months. With a low tournament count in the next few months and these significant changes, I'm confident no one really knows how things will fall out by February. Exciting times to be in 40K!

I have no problems with formations, it's the presence of previous Apoc only things (like GMC and S:D everywhere) that I think has changed the game. Troops no longer matter.

Even there, I think they're going to have much more of an impact on the various Psychic-powered DeathStars than on stuff like GSC or most Daemons. The DeathStar support casters have to get up much more aggressively, while the others can hang back a bit until the fairly squishy Sisters have been cleared out.

It's 12" per (which would be a fair chunk of area, but not quite a 24" bubble - more spread out though). But...I think you're being needlessly pessimistic here. Their anti-psyker rules are exactly the same as a culexus (with extra potential to remove WC from the pool if taking multiples, which is good, but I don't think 2 is going to make any real difference on actual deathstars, who should be rocking heaps of dice and/or have some bonus to casting). Now, they're half the cost and (mostly) more survivable - but they also don't get infiltrate and thus have to footslog their 12" bubble across the board as well.

Are they better than a culexus? I'd say so, yes. Are they that much better that the psychic phase will never see use ever again (especially, as WestRider said, against Daemons/Cult, whose psykers don't have to jump down the enemies throat like a deathstar)? ...I'd be very surprised.

I'm still confused how removing two dice from your pool has ended the Psychic Phase. The formation says that for every unit PAST the first, so as a 1-3 at max you can only have 2 dice removed by this rule. Gun those T3 girls down and you're good. Not a game changer in my mind....

12" radius = 24"circumference hence the 24" bubble; basic geometry.

It's not the 2 dice only, it's the whole denial area and the automatic removal of blessings. 12" plus 5 models at 2" per is 22" x 2. That's huge area. It means at least turn 2 before deathstars get spun up,maybe turn 3 (at least against a good player) AND it's only 225 points of your list. If you can't see how it changes the meta, for the better in most situations, I don't know what else to say.
