The Imperial Fleet opened fire on the seemingly endless tide of Tyranid Biovessels as they slowly approached the planet. As the first volleys reached their targets, the hive fleet gave its response. Acting in total synchrony, the smaller ships rushed forward and spewed torrents of plasma at their prey as the larger vessels turned to their sides and rained clouds of mycetic spores upon the planet. In the midst of all this chaos, one vessel in the hive fleet did not open fire. Instead of turning on it's side, this one seemed to point directly to the planet. It stayed this way, waiting until a sizable hole had been punched thru the Imperial Fleet. With a violent spasm, the front of the vessel was torn from the rest and sent soaring down toward the planet.
Planet side, the Imperial Guard was already dealing with the first wave of ground troops that had arrived via mycetic spore when they heard a bone-chattering crack from the sky. Those that were not currently fighting for their very lives glanced up to see what appeared to be one of the biovessels plummeting from space. It impacted just behind enemy lines, causing the ground to shake and throwing clouds of dirt and debris all over the battlefield.
Those not caught in the cloud held fast and formed a defensive line just out of reach, hoping to catch any fleeing xenos unprepared. As the dust settled though, what met their eyes was disheartening. None of the men caught in the cloud survived, their bodies torn to pieces either by flying debris or surviving tyranids. And from the crater of the biovessel rose a sickening amalgamation of flesh and chiten, seemingly expanding from the guts by design. It had high walls covered in thick armor, large tubes worming from the corners into the ground and weapon forms protruding out from every conceivable orifice. And on it's top, a large armored spine unfurled revealing the largest tyranid the soldiers had seen yet. It lay fused to the horrible mass, two monstrous talons stretching out and a massive gun of some kind facing forward.
The gun began to pulse. The veins leading into it, as well as the many small tubes that connected into the barrel, began to glow bright blue. The glow grew brighter and brighter until the gun pulled back into itself, hurling a great ball of screeching plasma at the imperial soldiers.
