Would it be possible to convert a venomthrole kit into a malanthrope kit? Using some Tyranid warriors rending talons for the arms. I hope I got the right arms...

Malanthrope body is considerably bigger than a venom's. Think underfed carnifex sized. You'd have to bulk it up considerably but it could probably be done.

This. It's cheaper and all you need is the tyrant kit and some putty.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I've got a related question:

Does the Malanthrope kit come with / require the clear acrylic peg that I see in photos all the time? Or can it be built without it and remain stable?

I'm deciding if I want to kitbash one using spare bits, or just add one on to my next FW order.

The problem with using the Venomthrope as parts to convert for a malanthrope is that the two share virtually none of the same parts. The head and gas sacks are the same, body-size, tail length, lack of tentacles on the malanthrope, lack of grabby hands on the venomthrope...these will all give you problems.

Yes the malanthrope comes with the clear peg, and I would use it or a suitable replacement instead of relying on the resin tail to support it...also dont forget to tape it off or support the malanthrope with something other than the clear peg before you prime the model...

OP: I wouldnt use a venomthrope to make a malanthrope, rules are similar but that is about it. Id go with the suggestions above and use a flyrant kit and some green stuff. Maybe find some small scything talons off of an exocrine or mawlocs for the arms. The malanthrope has a pair of fingered arms kinda pointing at the bad guys but I don't know what you would use to make those.

In all honesty though, if you are going to go out and buy all of this I would just buy a malanthrope itself. It is a really cool looking model.

Here is a pic of my malanthrope, a warrior and a tyrant for comparison. I too didnt like the clear plast ping and therefore opted to take advantage of the possipilty to sculpt the resin using hot water (gotta love FW resin for that). I simply bend the tail to fit as a contact point to the base. Im happy with the result and think it looks good and dont care much for the "modelling for advantage" problem.
Anyway I digress but I dont agree with sculpting tyranids so high above the ground and now OP has a comparison pic and grey seer got my take on not using the plast stand.

I am planning on using the venomthrope kit to make a malanthrope. I'm going to merge two torsos together to make a much bulkier torso and triple spore chimneys from its back carapace. Use Green stuff to dramatically extend the tail. Then frankly I'm having some grasping whips instead of grasping tail. I dislike the teeny tiny arms on the proper malanthrope model so mines going to be a massive bundle of tentacles.

Can I ask the guys who own the Malanthrope model for some dimension? Thinking total height of the model and base size?
With the tentacles it will easily be bulky enough to not be considered modelling for advantage.

Not bothered about it being cheaper to use the Tyrant kit since I want the venom/zoan kit anyway as I need a Neurothrope. Have all the venoms and zoans I'd ever want though.
