Hi everyone, hope I posted in the right place? Anyways..
Today I just got news that my local GW store's manager has quit due to being asked to stop making the store into a place to play. A little back story.
Almost three years ago, South Carolina finally got a GW store and boy was I happy. At first it was nice, I was able to get stuff faster then my LFGS, the manager was nice, and it was a little over 5 minutes away from my house. But as weeks pass the store turned into a typical GW store and even the manager got on my nerves. He then left for another store and that's when Jon showed up.
Jon was actually new to the game and had not much experience in it. But he cared about his customers, and that's what made the store money. When before you would see either no customers or one, now there up 5 to 7 people in there regularly buying, painting and playing the game. He even with his own money (and help from the community) made room in the back and added four more tables. Eventually a new group of young players were born and new blood was flowing into our group's veins.
That is till GW took notice. At first they actually approved of his changes due to sales rising from the store. Then they start telling him to keep making his sells while being less customer friendly. Finally yesterday while the store had its regulars playing, the head of the manager department came in and told Jon he was displeased with the new game room and the players hanging around. He wanted him to change back to what the store was but to still make the same sells he was making now.
Jon refused to do that to his fellow gamers and friends, so told him he quits. What happens next really boiled my blood. The head manager told everyone other than Jon to leave the store and he locked the door, so that they can do some private matter. Now out of the customers that was kicked out was a 14 year old boy (great kid) who doesn't have his parents there (you guys know what I mean). So he calls his mom to pic him up, so he sits and waits for almost an hour in SC heat (between 80-95 F). Though some of the other gamers stayed with him it wasn't a pleasant experience for him or his mother (who almost came to tears out of worry). And what was the head manager's excuse when he was confronted by the mother.
"Games Workshop manager resignation is a private matter."
I don't care if its private, theres a back room he could of gone to do that and let the kid wait by the door for his mom. I know its their store, but you don't send a minor out into this heat like that. This behavior was uncalled for and horrible to customers. Me and the rest of the community are already filing in complaints about this mans behavior.
As for Jon, he still hasn't given up on his community and even now is searching other gaming stores that would allow his group to play.
I just don't understand you GW. For the 8 months this guy has been with you, making much more money than the previous owner, you wanted him to go back to the way things were and let him cut ties from the gaming community. All this shows is that you guys truly don't care about the customers.
Sorry for the long rant, had to get this out to you guys.
