First up on today's Projekt Update is another Prototype mainly utilizing the Hormagaunt, I call it the Scorpion Warrior...


Its very much like my earlier attempted Shrike (in fact it's the same head which popped off that prototype), and while I dig the Scorpion-esque tail for the Devo, I'm fairly unsure about it.  The holes for the original Horma arms are still unfilled, which I suppose I could easily plop some exhausts in there, but overall I still feel there is something lacking.  Not sure as to what though.

I might plop some wings on it to go back to the original idea of making Shrikes, that might clean up this model a bit.  For me I really can't tell what it is that just doesn't feel right with this guy.

But of course why worry about that when I have another new prototype to fiddle with, this one is quite a deal more rough around the edges too.

It might take a bit of imagination from the photo to see the potential with this one, but my thought process was something that could count as either a Tyrant Guard, Hive Guard or Ork KillaKan.  Its still extremely rough of course, and I need to figure the measurements a bit better.  On its own without the removable head piece it sits just under the size of a Killakan, and with it quite a deal too tall.  Not having a Tyrant/Hive Guard model to size compare it with is another difficulty.

I think the idea is promising, but it needs more work, but of course I'm at an impass at the moment as to how to proceed.  If anybody thinks either of these are on the right track, please let me know.

Real life seems to often times block the simple joys such as modeling from entering into my daily, weekly, or sometimes even monthly activities, but with this month's Nid-Tastic-madness, even I have been able to squeeze in a couple hours of work!

With any luck I'll be able to keep this up! *fingers crossed*

This update starts with a version 2 prototype of the Kan-Wall/Tyrant Guard

As with most of these minis it follows the dual usage ability for Nid or Ork armies, in this particular instance the shield can be removed to display a Big Shoota Kan for the Orks. Not that I think I'd ever use a Kan with a Big Shoota, but who knows.  There's still a fair bit of fiddling that needs doing, for starters it has a real lack of GW gray. Which in itself is ok as my current gaming status is Homegames rather than storegames or Tourneys, but it's status has an 'illegal' mini is something to note. I'm thinking about adding in a tail of some sort to really bring it closer to the Nid aesthetics, and its likely the base will have some sort of detailing.

Moving onto Warriors here's a nice new E-Ticket type of MegaWarriors, version 5.0

Personally I think its the best design yet, and frankly is a mini that will look really nice when painted. I figure its around 90%, just a couple more battle damage details to add and maybe some wirework. I think this is the design I'll really be utilizing for a large brood as well.

Last but not least are the two different prototype Gargoyles.

The one with a lack of detail on one wing is the first, I left him unfinished for this pic to really showcase the difference in detail, which is even more striking in person than on the photo. As for the difference in Wing design, this is for unit designation purposes, unit one will be traditional and unit two will be the reverse wing. The hard part I already forsee is figuring a third type of distinction for a third unit when using the Skyblight Formation, but I'll tackle that problem for another day.

If anyone was wondering the white rod that's holding them afloat is actually cut from a wire hanger that I managed to get 20 flying stands from each between 3.5 cm to 5 cm, approximately the same lengths as the traditional flyer stands (well a couple a bit taller).  The bases themselves are cut to the size of the traditionally clear small flyer stands, and yes their feet have been modified to fit more in line with the traditional atrophied limb status of Gargoyles (although I didn't really illustrate that in the pics).

I like the mechanical tail on the 5.0 warrior. the only ork thing left on the warriors seem to be the head but i guess it makes sense for the mek/dok to go overboard with da new stuff.

Maybe you could reuse the mech tail idea on the killa kan? I think it would be a shame to ruin the model in the name making it "legal" but if you have idea for some gw part I would try it out.

For the gargoyles 3rd squad could you not make the wings go straight out? that would solve your problem dont know if it fits your aestetics.

Great ideas Hyrrokin, I just might have to do those!  I don't know why I didn't think of that for the Kan, it solves a lot of problems, not to mention would look amazing.

The past week has seen a good amount of work done on the project (and a renewed dedication to this work).

So first up on this Update, the Model T MegaNobz are now a fully legal unit.

The unit is approximately 90-93% complete. All these things need is just a little finishing details (scraps, cuts, bulletholes, various battledamage), a little more wirework, and reattaching the large Scything Talon to the prototype's claw.

On Thursday I received the Hive Mind box, and being on the Warrior trend I had to plop a Prime together.

Since the new Warriors apparently come with a new size base, this first Prime conversion is coming in on the new base (which I'm guessing is 50mm). Its around 50-60%, still needs quite a bit of work and fixing, but I like where its headed. Truthfully I'm not likely to use the Boneswords, and with Warriors now coming on larger bases they don't perfectly fit with Meganobz anymore I'm a little bummed, but who knows, with some work maybe I can make this Prime look really epic and work as a count as MegaBoss with Big Choppa. Like I said this one is still very much on the WiP side.

But that's not all for this week. Oh no. Friday being an unexpectedly free day, I went a bit hog wild with some of the bits from the Hive Mind kit.

I know its difficult to make out what it is from this photo, so I'll lay it out. This is the beginnings of a Hive Tyrant conversion. The metal side is from the last Metal version of a Tyrant, I've had it in my bits box for a couple years due to a mistake release of the metal Tyrant with 2 left sides. The legs are of course the normal Walk-Rant legs, and the rest is just a PVC pipe and plasticard/sheet styrene with some battledamage. I know this one looks like it has a long way to go... well


Like I said it was a relatively free day, leading to massive amounts of Konversion on this particular phase of the project. And sure, while I don't necessarily need another Hive Tyrant with a HVC, the old one got pretty dinged up in my shelf collapse fiasco and with the 6th Ed Codex making the Lashwhip Bonesword combo no longer standard, it made sense to do a new one. I'm comfortable guesstimating this one at 60% complete, after only a day of work.

I still want to Cybork up the tail into looking like it could possibly function as another DCCW for when this counts as a Dread (with a bit of work it'll count as a 3 DCCW+Skorcha Dread), some glyph work (always a bonus for detail not to mention bring it further in line with the other big ones), access panel at the top, exhausts, maybe a Grot Rigger or two, and of course my two big penchants wirework and more battledamage (because you can never have enough battledamage on a mini).

Yeah so that's this week in Orknidz. If I don't find a job soon this is likely to get more crazy sooner rather than later.
