Not only does the Wraithknight do what it's supposed to do but with proper Eldar synergy it can keep doing it and doing it and doing it. In our local shop's escalation tournament we've had a player fielding first two, then three WKs.  In two stages of the tournament over eight matches he's lost six wraithknights total and only one match against very skilled opponents.  In my only match against WK (two models) at 1850 pts. with two Tervigon and Two DakkaFlyrants I managed to put two wounds on one, both of which were regenerated.  I know this isn't a thread about Wraithknights, and we should not use them as the standard by which all other MCs are judged, but it is a unit that definitely stands out from the crowd of MCs for having lots of pluses and few if any minuses beyond what is standard to the MC category.

You point out the key weakness in 'nid MCs - "getting there". Unless we're fielding a meat shield unit OR a unit meant to attract fire away from other targets, I doubt many of us relish the idea of paying considerable points for MCs that have a reliably better chance of dying before they assault an enemy unit than they do of killing their points equivelant in a game. For me, I will use the Wraithknight as a standard in so much as, if 'nids are going to have a unit that is MORE expensive than a WK (I'm talking to you T'Fex), then it certainly ought to be AT LEAST comparable in terms of survivability and potential contribution to a battle. And for our less expensive MCs, a reason to play them would definitely be nice.

I have always thought that TMCs should not be all that tough to hurt, but should have a ton of wounds.

Flicking through the past editions of codices, the statlines of our units hasen't changed all that much. In most cases it's been left untouched, and for good reasons. Or statlines are adequate for the most part, but we need something other than just Fearless/Synapse to keep our big bugs alive. I'm really hoping to see some new interesting and hopefully unique additions to our special rules. Like a +6 IWND roll on every TMC or whatever. Eternal Warrior seems farfetched, but anything that give us a boost would be most welcome. As has been mentioned, the 6th edition codices really play well together, I'm just hoping we get to join in on the fun.

This reminds me, I haven't really heard who's supposedly doing or codex. Think someone mentioned Ward? If I remember correctly, Kelly turned down 5th Edition Tyranids, because he didn't want to do a back-to-back codex. If he (Kelly) is involved in the project, I feel much more confident in the final product.

vecuu yes, we have access to a bunch of MC that are too expensive and brought down by bolter fire. a rhino (the lowest common denominator transport tank) is largely immune to those same small arms. how is this a good idea, ever?

talking anout MC cost:

two words: Carnifex and Dreadknight with sword. Well, that's a bit more than two, but whatever. For the same cost difference is just incredible.

GW always maintain that they don't take the costs of other codices into account when costing things for a particular codex. I don't have any trouble believing that this is their policy, but must be in the 5 stupidest ideas I've ever come across

This policy has to be true, or CSM would actually cost less points than they do now. No way they think ATSKNF costs 1 point a model.

With rumors starting to get debunked (even if so far it has been from people admitting they were trolling), combined with the slow down in new rumors, I think that only a small fraction is even believable. But, there is enough evidence for me to think they should be the next dex in 40k. How GW handles mystery box will determine how we get it. If it gets its own month, I wouldn't be shocked if they landed in January. If we get a fantasy dex next month along with one (or there is no box this year), Nidvember is most likely real.

A csm squad was cheaper in 5th edition codex. 14 points for bolter, pistol and ccw now they are 14 base without the the combat weapon if I recall. The fact games workshop believe that a carnifex barebones is worth the same points as a swordknight is unfathomable, a carnifex is worth at a a drastic shove, 100 points. Probably a touch less. I firmly believe there was little to no play testing done on the cruddace codex. After the "creeping plague" and tyranid prime rumours were declared false i'm actually still optimistic about a nid release being around the corner. I'm hearing some ultra solid rumours about dark elf miniatures for October(40k radio) who were ultra solid with the space marine codex and miniatures so I see no reason to doubt them at the time. I'm going to message them about a week after the dark elf release to see if they have heard anything nid wise

Looking at Necron armies immune to Tyranids behind a wall of AV13/AV11rear with access to multiples of T6 3+ save MC's for 50 points, you can bet your @ss I want tougher and cheaper Tyranid monsters. Tougher as in harder to kill, not higher Toughness. Oh, so you're immune to 40K. Taste some of your own medicine and see how fun it is.

I forgot about tomb spiders... First time I played against them my opponent had 6 of them. I wish I could throw down 4 carnifex at even close to the same cost.

I don't think the MCs in the deamons codex are much tougher then ours though are they? They have the invulnerable save but are mostly T5 right?

Greater Daemons are T6 (except the Great Unclean One and Kugath, both of which are T7) and 5-6 wounds standard. They do cost a pretty penny in points though.
